Divorced & Dying The Mafia Boss Regrets Everything Chapter 20

Grace was in a darkness so complete she couldn’t tell heaven from hell.

She heard someone confessing over and over in her ear, in Dominic’s voice no less–a ghostly experience.

So when her eyes focused on Dominic’s panicked face, she was still lost in a dream, completely unaware.

“Grace.”

“Grace.”

It wasn’t until she saw Finnegan, who looked several years older, that she hesitantly realized she was still

alive.

Dominic’s hands were white knuckled on the bed rail. His jaw trembled, and after saying her name once,

couldn’t speak.

Grace finally said “Finnegan,” just a breathy whisper, ignoring Dominic the whole time.

“Here”

he

Finnegan nodded and used his cane to edge Dominic aside, lowering his voice. “You’d better clean yourself up first. She just woke up–we can’t upset her.”

Dominic’s Adam’s apple moved. He kept his eyes on Grace, reluctantly stepped back, and the knot in his

chest eased slightly.

When he was outside the ward, medical staff passed him and surrounded Grace, blocking his view. His throat tightened, and he murmured, “Grace…”

Grace’s head pounded and her body was weak. In the middle of the night, she woke from a nightmare. The next second, the door opened.

In the dim light, she couldn’t see the visitor’s face, but one thing was clear: she didn’t want to see him.

She turned her head away and closed her eyes, enduring the pain.

Her body was still burning hot. The sudden cool touch on her face made her start; her breath quickened, and she tried to pull away, but he spoke.

“…Don’t turn away from me, Grace.”

His voice was low and hoarse. “Please…”

Grace relaxed her jaw and let out a sharp breath, frowning. “What do you mean by this?”

“Are you pitying me because I’m dying? Let me tell you, Dominic, I don’t need… cough…”

She couldn’t finish; she started coughing violently. Her thin body shook, and after the coughing, she went inte spasms. Dominic was frantic, stammering,

He leaned down, took her hand, and pressed it to his face, his voice still trembling. “It’s not pity…”

“I know everything now, Grace. It’s all my fault. I shouldn’t have… I shouldn’t have treated you like this. I–I

deserve to die. Don’t abandon me. You have to live…”

He slapped himself with her hand. “Hit me… hit me.”

No matter how hard Grace tried, she couldn’t pull her hand back, so she gave up and let him do it. When her palm was bright red, Dominic pressed his lips to it and kissed it gently. “Does it hurt? Does it hurt? I’m

sorry…

A wave of helplessness gripped her heart. Grace looked at him impassively, but the red in her eyes betrayed

her.

“You’re treating me like dirt right now. What do you take me for? A dog you can call over and kick away, then coax back with a bone?”

Dominic shook his head frantically. “No, no, I didn’t…”

Grace fell silent again. After a long time, she spoke in a hoarse voice.

“What about Sienna? Are you planning on having two women?”

“Then let me tell you, don’t even think about it. I’d rather die than…”

Dominic kept shaking his head, still looking every inch the arrogant ruler. Seeing that Grace was about to cough again, he fearfully pressed his hand over her mouth to stop her, his voice pleading. “No, please, Grace, don’t say any more.”

Grace stopped talking, but tears began to fall from the corners of her eyes. Dominic caught them one by one and whispered, “Don’t cry.”

Those tears nearly drowned him. No matter how many soft words he said or how much tenderness he poured out, Grace just looked at him without speaking, tears streaming down her face.

Dominic’s throat ached, and finally, he couldn’t hold it in any longer. The tall, proud man–over six feet- cried even harder than Grace.

Tears fell onto Grace’s hand one after another as he buried his face in her arms.

Grace and Dominic’s hearts had never truly met. It had simply reversed–from me chasing you to you chasing me.
