Divorced & Dying The Mafia Boss Regrets Everything Chapter 21

In the end, Grace was the first to lose consciousness. She didn’t know when Dominic left.

The next day, Grace’s eyes were so swollen she couldn’t open them. Liam panicked and frantically pressed the call button, his speech slurred.

Grace didn’t have the strength to stop his. She just shook her head.

Once the confusion was cleared up, the nurse increased her morphine, and the pain finally eased a little. She relaxed and felt like bantering with Liam.

Seeing how the foreigner couldn’t get the better of her, her spirits lifted a bit. After laughing, she quieted down and said seriously, “Liam, thank you.”

Caught off guard, Liam’s already broken English became even more broken. “No no need. You fine, that good.”

By the third day, Dominic still hadn’t appeared.

These past two days, Finnegan had come to visit with his granddaughter again. He kept hinting that she should get checked out. Grace played with the baby and politely declined.

But somehow, Finnegan always managed to steer the conversation back to her brain tumor.

Just get it checked–it’s not like you really have to read it.

Just take a look–it doesn’t mean you have to treat it./

Why not give it a try? You’ve got nothing to lose.

The baby giggled in Grace’s arms, making Grace laugh too. Finnegan, worried she would tire herself out, would occasionally take the baby so she could rest.

“It’s pointless.”

Grace put the sleeping baby in the postpartum nurse’s arms, leaving only her and Finnegan in the room.

This was the third time she had been pulled back from the brink of death. It was about to extinguish what little life remained.

“Don’t waste your resources on me. It’s no use.”

“Just try. Try once.”

Grace lifted the bandage over her IV line and pushed it back down, repeating the motion absently, but Finnegan still wouldn’t give up.

“What about the baby? My granddaughter loves you so much–look, she stopped crying the moment you held her. How can you bear to leave without her remembering you?”

“If you get better, I’ll have her become your goddaughter right away. How about that?”

Grace looked at him and smiled weakly. “Finnegan, I never thought you would come to value me so much.”

When she had stood up for Dominic, Finnegan had been constantly on guard, afraid she would demand too much, afraid Dominic would go from the frying pan into the fire.

When she held a gun to Dominic’s head to force him to sign the marriage contract, Finnegan had wanted nothing more than to shoot her.

Now he was begging her to value her own life and even wanted his granddaughter to take her as godmother. Grace truly cherished it. It had been a long time since she had felt this kind of warmth from family.

Benjamin came to see her once too. He didn’t stay long before Grace drove him away.

She had seen everyone she needed to see before dying. That was good, Grace thought.

On the fifth day, Grace was feeling better, so Liam wheeled her out into the hallway to get some sun. Dominic returned.

She watched the weary man approach, a cold draft following him. Grace was in a good mood; when she looked at Dominic, her expression was fairly calm, and she could even nod in greeting like an old friend.

Dominic’s mouth twitched with excitement, his Adam’s apple bobbed, and his hanging fingers twitched involuntarily.

He wanted to touch her, but didn’t dare.

“…Grace, the surgical evaluation is in. We…”

“Who gave you the right to decide for me?”

Grace’s face hardened, and her voice turned cold. “Fine, go ahead and evaluate. I’m not having surgery.”

Dominic’s heart twisted, a chill spreading through him. His throat dry, he spoke again. “I know.”

“I know you hate me, resent me- whatever. But you can’t treat your health so lightly.”

Grace looked up at him, her eyes cold. “When have I ever joked with you, Dominic?”

“From beginning to end, did I ever ask to live? You wouldn’t let me die. Don’t try that crap on me.”

“Liam, take me back.”
