I saw Damian again in the winter.

I was about to go build a snowman when I saw a familiar figure standing outside the yard.

He was wearing the coat I’d given him when we were together. He just watched me.

After a long time, he spoke.

“Claire, I couldn’t grant your wish… I’m divorced now too…”

I pulled off my glove and showed him the ring on my finger.

“I’m married.”

The color drained from his face. It was like all his strength was gone. Just then, the door behind me opened and a man even taller and broader than Damian stepped out. He was carrying a warm cashmere coat.

“Claire, why are you out here without a coat?” His voice was low and rough. He wrapped the coat around me without waiting for an answer. His powerful arm circled my waist and pulled me into a possessive embrace. Right in front of Damian’s agonized stare, he gave me a deep, claiming kiss.

When he finished, he finally glanced at Damian with cold eyes. “Get off my property before I call the cops, Damian.” He steered me inside without another look back.
