Something broke in Damian’s eyes.

He stood frozen like a statue. I turned around and didn’t look back.

This time, Poppy finally got him on a plane back to the States.

I heard the rest from Sophie, his buddy’s girlfriend.

I’d deleted her before, but she tracked me down again to share the gossip.

“Damian agreed to marry Poppy.”

Sophie said he was like a different person when he got back.

He rushed into the wedding almost immediately. His parents were thrilled, thinking the families were finally uniting.

They had no idea it was the start of a nightmare.

Damian showed up two hours late to the ceremony.

He wasn’t wearing the planned tuxedo. He still had on the wedding ring from our ceremony.

He showed up, but he humiliated the Astor family.

“And you know what? Poppy didn’t even lose it. She went through with the whole thing.”

The wedding was a huge Blackwood production with tons of media.

They spent a fortune trying to kill the story and save face, but it leaked anyway.

The scandal was all over the place by the end of the day.

And it got worse. Damian vanished on his wedding night.

Poppy was alone in the suite while he spent the night in our old East Village rental.

At dawn, he was photographed making a massive public donation in my name to a charity for pregnancy loss and infant bereavement.

He told the cameras, “I’m praying for my child.”

People were confused and guessed he had a secret kid.

Poppy knew exactly who he was mourning.

She couldn’t take the humiliation and went to confront him.
