Canceled Honeymoon Chapter 07

Canceled Honeymoon Chapter 07

My mind went blank. My vision went dark.

I couldn’t hold on any longer. I collapsed.

I had a very long dream.

I dreamed of college and the first time I met Damian. He leaned against the railing and asked, “Hey, what’s your name?”

I just looked at him and said nothing.

Ever since my best friend in high school jumped from our dorm building and died right in front of me, I’d barely spoken.

And then my dad died in a lab accident.

Two devastating losses in two years. I was diagnosed with moderate depression.

I became the “freak” everyone whispered about.

I ignored Damian, figuring he’d give up and leave like everyone else.

After all, everyone said he had zero patience.

But Damian kept asking for three years.

He was a shadow wherever I went.

The library. The lecture hall. The auditorium. Competitions. Charity events.

He grabbed books from high shelves for me. He handed me umbrellas in the rain. He was the first to clap after my stuttered speeches. He was the first to bring flowers onstage.

I gave him nothing, and still he waited.

Until one day I finally spoke. “Claire.”

He grinned and looked at me. “That’s beautiful.”

Then he pulled a bouquet of jasmine from behind his back like magic.

My words grew, and my mental health improved.
