Boyfriend says I’m too much—Someone else’s turn Chapter 05

This elective was open to students from all years, so the class was a mix of people from different grades.

After class, the professor assigned a project that required us to work in pairs on a research study.

Naturally, I assumed I would be paired with Asher. After all, I was his girlfriend.

But his junior beat me to it, signing both her name and his on the list without hesitation.

“It’s like this, Roselyn,” she said with a polite smile.

“Asher and I are in the same major, and we already have a related assignment from our advisor.”

“This research topic lines up perfectly, so it’s more convenient for us to work on it together.”

“Maybe… you could find someone else?”

This time, I could clearly sense the hint of smugness in her tone.

I glanced at Asher, who said nothing.

He simply looked at me, lips pressed together slightly, as if silently agreeing with everything she had said.

I found myself at a loss for words.

This elective was part of the physics department. I had only taken it because Asher was in it.

Most of the students here were science majors. As a humanities student, I barely knew anyone.

One by one, everyone found a partner, and I was left standing alone. Almost instinctively, I looked at him for help.

But I forgot something.

Why would he ever stand up for me?

If anything, maybe he found me annoying and chose to work with his junior on purpose.

My nose stung a little. I lowered my head onto the desk.

Pathetic. It was such a small thing, yet I still let it get to me.

Look at you. When did you start thinking you were that important?

“Roselyn, what’s wrong? No one to pair up with?”

Of course, the junior chose that exact moment to make things worse.

I clenched my fist, ready to snap back, when a clear, easygoing voice cut in from above.

“She’s got someone.”

A hand pressed lightly on my head.

“Roselyn, what a coincidence. You’re taking astrophysics too?”

It really was a coincidence.

It was my classmate, Matthew Carter.

He was the captain of the university basketball team. I’d always assumed someone like him wouldn’t pick a sit-down elective like this.

Relief washed over me. I took the list, ready to write his name down.

But I couldn’t find a pen.

So I turned to the person beside me.

“Can I use your pen? I—”

That’s when I noticed him.

My boyfriend, who hadn’t said a word the entire time, was staring intently at the hand still resting on my head.

For a moment, he didn’t move.

Then, without expression, he passed me his pen.

And for a split second, I actually thought he might be jealous.
