As a Sensitive, I Saw Another Woman in My Wolf Mate’s Heart Chapter 04

After a long time, the pain gradually faded.

I sat up quietly.

He was still asleep.

Moonlight filtered through the curtains and fell across the vanity.

My vanity.

He had never paid attention to what was placed on it.

Near dawn, I got up, packed a small suitcase, and moved into the guest room.

At breakfast the next morning, he saw my slippers outside the guest room door.

“Why did you sleep in the guest room?”

“I couldn’t sleep last night. I was afraid I’d disturb you.”

He gave a small “Mm” and kept looking down at his moonstone communicator.

He did not ask again.

On the third day after I moved into the guest room, the moon essence test strip I had secretly bought reacted to my blood.

That meant there was a pup in my belly.

I went to Healer Miller for a blood draw and used full moon essence for another test.

Pregnancy confirmed.

Six weeks.

The pup’s heartbeat was weak. It needed the father’s wolf breath to nourish it.

I tucked the report into my diary.

In the blank space, I wrote one line.

[When you arrived, your daddy no longer had your mommy in his heart.]

I went to the Den to find him.

Downstairs, I happened to see him opening the car door for Lyra.

She lowered her head and slid into the passenger seat.

The seat that had once been mine.

Before he got in, he even shielded the top of her head with his hand.

That was something he used to do only for me.

“Driver, take me back.”

The report in my bag pressed against my hand.

I did not call out to him.

That night, he came home.

I sat in the living room, waiting.

“I went to the Den today.”

He kept changing his shoes.

“Why didn’t you come in?”

“What would I have said if I had gone in?”

He glanced at me, irritated.

“What’s wrong with you now?”

“I saw you open the car door for her. I saw you shield her head. That was something you only did for me before.”

He sighed.

“Raina, she’s my assistant. Opening a door for her is basic courtesy. You weren’t like this before. You used to be generous and sensible.”

“Generous? So the things you did for me can be done exactly the same for someone else, and I shouldn’t care? If I care, that means I’m not generous? Is that what you mean?”

He rubbed his brow.

“I’m tired today. I don’t want to fight.”

He walked into the study and closed the door.

Before, I could turn a blind eye to certain things.

Now, I only felt exhausted.

I asked him to make time to go with me to a prenatal appointment.

He replied with one word.

[Okay.]

But at seven the next morning, he sent a message.

[Emergency Elder meeting. Back the day after tomorrow. If you feel unwell, have the driver take you. Love you, Silas.]

I called him.

His phone was off.

From deep within my soul, the Mate Bond sent up a dull ache.

It told me this was a lie.

I called the Den front desk.

The staff said Alpha Silas had no meetings scheduled today.

I took a cab to the clinic alone.

In the hallway, a werewolf on my left was tying his mate’s shoes. On my right, a werewolf mate held his mate carefully as they walked.

I was alone.

The Healer said my progesterone was too low, and there was a risk of miscarriage.

The pup’s heartbeat was too weak. It needed the father’s wolf breath to nourish it continuously.

She asked whether my mate had come.

I said, “I’ll sign for myself.”

The Healer looked at me.

“Where is your mate?”

“On Pack duty.”

She did not ask again.

While I was receiving the pure moon essence injection to protect the pregnancy, I saw Lyra’s social media.

A nine-photo post at the seaside at sunset.

The caption read:

[Someone said he wants to see the ocean when he’s stressed, so I got dragged here today. It feels so good to be spoiled.]

In the bottom right corner of the last photo, there was a hand.

On the ring finger was a ring.

A pair with the one on my left hand.

At ten that night, the abdominal pain began.

It was not ordinary pain.

It was my body rejecting the pup that had already died.

Without the father’s wolf breath, it had weakened little by little inside my womb.

I took a cab to the emergency room alone.

A nurse pushed me into the operating room.

“Is the pup gone?”

“You’ve already miscarried. We need to perform a uterine evacuation. Is your mate here?”

“I’ll sign for myself.”

The surgery ended at three in the morning.

I sat in the hallway and called him again and again.

His phone stayed off.

In the end, I could only send a message.

[Silas, something happened. Come back.]

He did not call back until the next afternoon.

There was the sound of waves and a car engine on his end.

“Just got off the plane. What happened?”

I endured the pain in my body and said flatly, “It’s handled.”

“Good. I’ll be home tonight. I brought you seafood.”

That night, he came back.

I sat on the living room sofa without turning on the lights.

He asked why the lights were off and casually placed a bag of seafood on the dining table.

“I brought you crab. I’ll steam it for you tomorrow.”

I did not answer.

He came over and sat down.

Seeing my bad color, he reached out to touch my forehead.

I avoided him.

“I have something to tell you.”

“I was preg—”

Before I could finish, his moonstone communicator exploded with sound.

Lyra’s special ringtone.

He immediately lowered his head to look at the screen.

I knew the way his expression changed in that instant far too well.

He raised a hand, signaling for me to wait, and quickly swiped to answer.

“What’s wrong?”

The voice on the other end was small, but I was close enough to hear every word.

“Silas, I think I have a fever. My whole body has no strength. Can you…”

“Did you take your temperature? How high?”

“One hundred one point three.”

He stood up and walked toward the foyer as he spoke.

“Wait there. I’m coming right now.”

Halfway there, he remembered to explain to me.

“Raina, Lyra has a fever. She’s alone at home with no one to take care of her. I’ll go check on her. I’ll be back soon. We’ll talk about your thing later.”

The words on the tip of my tongue were swallowed back down.

I listened to his footsteps vanish down the stairs.

The living room was quiet.

The bag of crab still sat in its plastic bag on the dining table.

But inside my soul, a wild tide began to rise.

Snap.

It was the last thread of the Mate Bond breaking completely.

Maybe I had already hurt too much before.

Compared with that, the final break did not hurt at all.

Instead, it brought a strange, relieved lightness.

It was time for me to act.
