As a Sensitive, I Saw Another Woman in My Wolf Mate’s Heart Chapter 05

Silas’s POV

When I got Lyra’s call, I was worried, so I left quickly.

When I arrived at her place, I discovered she had only misread the thermometer.

She did not have a fever.

But she was too warm and eager. She said she had been too happy in our little seaside world for two, and now that we were back, it was hard to quit.

I smiled and told her not to mess around.

But I felt the same.

So we did it again and again.

When the next morning’s sunlight fell across my face, the first thing that appeared in my mind was Raina’s face before I left.

She had looked like she wanted to say something.

Something very important.

I tried to pretend I did not care.

But my wolf kept growling inside me, as if I had lost something important.

And the mate mark sent a cold ache through me, impossible to ignore.

I meant to go home that morning, but Lyra truly developed a fever.

I had no choice.

I could not leave her alone.

I took her to the treatment center for a healing injection.

While waiting, the unease in my chest grew heavier and heavier.

So I sent Raina a text.

That afternoon, ignoring Lyra’s attempts to make me stay, I went home.

My wolf was restless, almost ready to leap out and drag me back.

My unease slowly became panic.

But I told myself nothing major could have happened.

Raina had always been a quiet, boring person.

Until I pushed the door open and saw the report on the coffee table.

My footsteps stopped abruptly.

[Clinical diagnosis: complete miscarriage.]

[Patient: Raina Ashworth Blackthorn.]

Raina’s POV

Nova got my call at nine that night.

“Come pick me up.”

“Now?”

“Mm.”

She arrived in twenty minutes.

When she came in and saw the things spread across the coffee table, she asked nothing and helped me carry the suitcase to the car.

As the car drove out of the Territory, my moonstone communicator lit up.

It was a message from him.

[Her fever is a little bad. I’m staying with her for a healing injection. We’ll talk properly tomorrow when I come back.]

Nova held the steering wheel with one hand and glanced at me.

“Where to?”

“Your place first.”

“What about him?”

“He’s staying with someone else for a healing injection.”

Nova bit her lip and said nothing else.

I leaned against the car window.

The glass was cold.

My hand rested on my belly, on the place that was now empty.

Little pup, your daddy did not fail to know you came.

He only thought something else was more urgent.

His call came the next afternoon.

I answered.

“Raina, you’re not home? What does that paper on the coffee table mean?”

“Miscarriage report. Your pup.”

The other end went silent.

“What you said last night… you were pregnant?”

“It was already gone.”

“Raina, I didn’t know. I thought you only wanted me to go with you for a checkup. Lyra really had a bad fever…”

“I know.”

I cut him off.

“I know she had a bad fever. One hundred one point three. You heard that clearly. I was six weeks pregnant, and you didn’t hear me. You asked me to wait until you came back. What I waited for was your back.”

He stopped speaking.

“Silas, when you walked out last night, did you look back at me even once?”

Only his breathing came through the call.

“No. Not once.”

I hung up.

Nova poked her head out of the kitchen, holding two glasses of water.

“What did he say?”

“He said she had a bad fever.”

Nova set the glasses down hard on the table.

“He really isn’t human.”

“He only gave priority to someone else.”

“And I am going to give priority to myself.”
