As a Sensitive, I Saw Another Woman in My Wolf Mate’s Heart Chapter 03

Silas was working late in the study.

At eleven that night, I brought him a cup of warm milk.

The door was not fully closed. He was on a call, using a gentle tone I had not heard in a very, very long time.

“Mm. You sleep first. We’ll talk tomorrow. I miss you too.”

He hung up and lifted his head.

When he saw me standing at the door, he froze.

“Why aren’t you asleep yet?”

“Do you talk to all your subordinates this gently?”

“Wasn’t that just normal? Don’t overthink it.”

I said nothing.

I turned and walked out.

Then I heard him close the study door.

He had never closed the study door before.

I waited for him for twenty minutes.

When he came in and saw I was still awake, I spoke first.

“Silas, I need to tell you something. I have an ability. I’ve had it since I was little. When I touch someone, I can see the face of the person they love most.”

His hand stopped while removing his jacket.

“The first time I touched you at seven, I saw myself.”

“When you held my hand at eighteen, it was me. When you proposed, it was me.”

“On the morning of our third mating anniversary, I touched your Adam’s apple, and two faces appeared. Mine and Lyra’s.”

Silence lasted for a long time.

Then he laughed.

“You have quite an imagination. Have you been too bored at home lately?”

“I’m not joking. Every word is true.”

His smile faded.

“Raina, are you too tired? Do you want to see the Healers?”

I stood up and took his hand.

“Let me touch you now. Close your eyes and think of someone. I’ll tell you who is in your heart.”

He yanked his hand back.

The movement was not big.

But it was decisive.

“Raina, enough! If you have a problem with Lyra, take it out on me. She has a mate. Stop thinking nonsense. It’s unfair to her.”

He picked up his jacket and left the bedroom.

I stood there for a long time, my hand still frozen in the shape of holding his.

He came back at two in the morning.

A strange scent clung to him.

Not perfume.

Another werewolf’s scent-mark.

I closed my eyes and pretended to be asleep.

He lay down quietly and, after a while, reached out to pull me into his arms.

I closed my eyes.

Only one face appeared.

Lyra’s face.

My face was completely gone.

The Mate Bond tore open more than halfway.

My soul suffered pain I had never known before.

Burning.

Freezing.

Ripping.

Stabbing.

I bit my lip hard and did not let out a single sound.

If I had not been Wolfless, if I had my own wolf, she could have protected me.

His arm rested around my waist, his breath close to my ear.

I had known him for twenty-one years.

For the first time, I could not find myself in his heart.

I gently moved out of his arms.

He mumbled, “Don’t move.”

When his breathing evened out, I turned over and faced away from him.

My soul still hurt.

My body could not stop trembling.

It felt as if something was surging out of my fragile stomach, torturing my throat.

My head felt as if it had been crushed beneath a thousand-pound moonstone, and even breathing pulled pain through my temples.

Tears I could not control soaked into the silk pillowcase.

But my heart was clear as the moon.

I knew I had to do something.
