As a Sensitive, I Saw Another Woman in My Wolf Mate’s Heart Chapter 02

I went to the Pack Den to find him.

In the elevator, I ran into Lyra first.

She recognized me and smiled as she held out her hand.

“Luna Raina, hello. I’m Lyra, Alpha Silas’s assistant.”

She acted natural.

Graceful.

She pressed the floor button, then took one step back to stand beside me.

Halfway up, she took a call.

“Silas? He usually doesn’t eat lunch. Just a cup of coffee. That’s his habit.”

After hanging up, she smiled at me.

“Luna Raina is here to have lunch with Alpha Silas?”

The elevator doors opened.

I did not answer her.

Inside the office, Silas was flipping through files without lifting his head.

I placed the insulated lunch box on his desk.

“You don’t eat lunch?”

“Sometimes I get busy and skip it.”

Lyra knocked and came in to deliver documents.

She glanced at the lunch box and smiled.

“Luna Raina is so thoughtful. Alpha Silas mentioned wanting lasagna last time, and you made it for him.”

My hand, which had been cutting the lasagna for him, stopped in midair.

Silas lowered his head and ate.

He did not look up.

After Lyra left, only the two of us remained in the office.

“She knows you pretty well.”

“Who?”

“Lyra. She knows you skip lunch. She knows you only drink coffee.”

He put down his fork.

“Raina, she’s my assistant. Knowing my work habits is her job.”

“Is it?”

“What are you thinking now? You’re the only one in my heart.”

He sighed and lowered his head to keep eating.

That night, he worked overtime until ten.

I went to the study to bring him fruit.

His moonstone communicator screen was lit.

Lyra had sent a selfie.

Right in front of me, he flipped the communicator over and pressed the screen facedown on the desk.

“Pack business.”

“I didn’t ask.”

I set down the fruit and left the study.

My hand paused on the doorknob for two seconds.

He still did not call me back.

On Sunday, he said he would make up for our anniversary.

When we arrived at the restaurant, the server led us in with a smile.

“Alpha Silas, your usual table?”

The second booth by the window.

He had been here more than once.

After we sat down, I looked at the empty chair across from me.

“Have you brought someone else here?”

He was pouring water for me, and his hand paused.

“I’ve brought Pack brothers here. Why?”

“Nothing. This seat really is nice.”

When he came back from the restroom, he placed a piece of steak on my plate.

“Silas, do you ever feel like there is someone else between us now?”

His hand paused for half a beat while peeling shrimp.

Then he kept peeling.

“Who? Why would you suddenly say that?”

“Nothing. I was just asking.”

He placed the shrimp in my bowl.

After dinner, his moonstone communicator lit up.

Lyra sent:

[Silas, see you tomorrow.]

He turned slightly to reply, and I caught the screen from the corner of my eye.

He sent back an emoji.

Then he locked the screen and took my hand.

“Let’s go.”

I let him lead me forward and looked down at our clasped hands.

Under the streetlights, our shadows stretched across the ground, one in front and one behind.

I suddenly remembered the first time he held my hand when we were eighteen.

Back then, when I closed my eyes, his face had filled my whole heart.

I closed my eyes now and touched his wrist.

Two faces remained.

Mine.

And Lyra’s.

Neither weighed more than the other.

He turned to look at me and asked why I had stopped walking.

I said, “Let’s go.”

I caught up with him, and he tightened his grip on my hand.

The gesture was natural.

Exactly like before.

But I knew.

It was not the same anymore.

The Mate Bond felt as if it were being burned by fire, breaking apart little by little, scorching my organs with a deep, searing pain.
