After I Walked Away and Found My Real Home, They Finally Regretted It Chapter 06

Julian didn’t make the call. He gently supported Amelia.

“Alright, let’s head home first,” he said softly, setting the phone aside.

“Mom, Dad… I don’t think the girl who stopped the chaos could be Vivian.”

“She just wasn’t built for that kind of courage or self-sacrifice.”

“Let’s get Amelia home to rest first.”

He deliberately ignored the nagging unease in his chest as he helped Amelia walk out.

Leo’s phone suddenly rang.

“Nathaniel… what did you just say?”

“What do you mean ‘another world’? What mission?”

“Clara jumped and died. She’s gone!”

“Vivian’s from another world too?”

“Stop talking nonsense! Vivian couldn’t be dead!”

Leo, frustrated, tried to hang up.

A stretcher covered with a blood-stained sheet was wheeled past.

“You must be the family…”

“This is Miss Sinclair’s body.”

Leo’s phone slipped from his hand. His body froze.

He looked back at Julian in disbelief. “Julian… what did she say?”

“Vivian’s body? She’s… really dead?”

Julian, still holding Amelia’s hand, trembled uncontrollably.

He pushed Amelia aside and stepped forward, yanking the sheet off.

“This… this is impossible…”

Before them lay the ghastly, unmistakable form of me.

“Ah! It’s really… Vivian!”

“My Vivian…”

Margaret’s face went pale. She fainted.

Julian’s grip on the sheet tightened. His eyeballs trembled uncontrollably.

“Julian… Vivian’s really dead…”

“How could she die?!”

“She hasn’t apologized to Amelia yet… hasn’t gotten into Northbridge University’s Physics program… how could this happen?”

Leo’s jaw tensed. He stepped forward and shook Vivian’s shoulders violently.

“Vivian, stop pretending!”

“I’m not letting you apologize… I have what you need for the exam. Wake up!”

He let out a raw, hoarse shout, his hands slick with my blood. As he moved, my chest shifted, and the wound tore open again.

Deep gashes crossed my chest, brutal and impossible to ignore.

“Julian… She’d always been terrified of pain. Her heart… stabbed like this… Was she in pain?”

Tears welled in Leo’s eyes as he looked to Julian for help.

Julian tried to speak, but his throat locked up. He couldn’t draw a full breath, panic pressing in from all sides.

“Of course it hurts! Listen to yourself.”

A nurse rolled her eyes, her lips curling in scorn.

“Miss Sinclair’s family is beyond lucky to have her, or maybe the opposite.”

“I pushed her out so you could see her one last time.”

“Miss Sinclair signed an organ and body donation consent. We’re taking her body.”

“What?!” Richard’s anger erupted.

“My daughter’s body… who gave you the right?!”

“I want to file a complaint!”

“Call the hospital director!”

His hands loosened his tie, eyes red.

Moments later, the director appeared.

“Mr. Sinclair, Miss Sinclair signed the donation consent after she reached adulthood.”

“In other words, she had full autonomy. It was her choice.”

He nodded to the nurse.

They wheeled my body away.
