Acting for Survival- Playing the Innocent Heroine to Escape the Villain’s Trap Chapter 09

I never expected Richard was taking me to try on dresses for Linda.

Bullet comments:

– [No wonder he called Nancy—her figure is almost identical to Linda’s.]
– [They are having an arranged marriage soon. He’s taking this family banquet super seriously.]
– [After breaking up and reconciling so many times, they’re finally getting engaged?]
– [My favorite fake marriage to real love trope is coming!]
– [But Daniel and Nancy will always stand between them and create misunderstandings.]
– [It’s classic substitute trope. Many times Richard kissed Nancy drunk mistaking her for Linda.]
– [Thankfully they still haven’t had any intimate moments in the novel!]

A sour ache spread through my heart.

So that was the truth all along.

I thought Richard lost control from alcohol desire.

All those kisses and hugs he stopped halfway…

Afterward he always said politely, “Sorry, I lost my self-control.”

Still, I knew my place as an employee.

Richard kept picking flaws nonstop.

I changed into a champagne evening gown first.

He stared coldly. “Ugly.”

I obeyed and changed into an emerald satin formal dress.

I whispered softly, “Green isn’t proper for an engagement ceremony, is it?”

Richard looked totally emotionless. “Ridiculous.”

The shop assistant dared not upset Richard and urged me gently, “Please try another one, Miss Garcia.”

I smiled and walked back into the fitting room.

By the twentieth dress, I finally lost patience. “Mr. Smith, exactly what style do you like?”

I’d tried sexy styles, pure looks, glamorous designs—everything.

The sky had turned pitch dark outside already.

Richard glanced at his watch casually. “It’s still early. Keep trying.”

I gritted my teeth. “What’s wrong with all the previous ones?”

Richard sighed lazily and sat comfortably on the sofa, waving his hand carelessly. “They just don’t give me the right feeling.”

“All these beautiful dresses have no feeling for you?! Why don’t you try a wedding gown yourself then?”

Richard raised an eyebrow lightly. “Good idea.”

I froze completely. Huh?

In the end, I struggled alone inside the fitting room wearing a wedding gown.

There was no one around to help me.

The zipper refused to budge no matter how hard I pulled.

I had no choice but to message Richard. “Mr. Smith.”

“Yes?”

“I can’t zip up this wedding gown alone. It’s stuck tight.”

“Coming.”

I thought a shop assistant would come help me.

Tired and exhausted, I looked into the mirror.

The gorgeous wedding gown fit my figure perfectly, as if tailor-made just for me.

A thought suddenly popped up in my mind: Why is Linda marrying Richard, not me?

The second the thought appeared, I knew my scheming side character nature never left me.

I lowered my head dejectedly, not noticing someone had already stepped inside behind me.

Cool fingertips touched my skin gently.

I saw Richard standing behind me in the mirror reflection.

My reason screamed for me to run away.

But Richard suddenly pushed me softly against the wall and whispered lowly, “Don’t move.”

The mirror reflected our awkward position clearly.

The tight gown accentuated every curve of my body.

Richard moved extremely slowly.

I breathed in and out nervously over and over again.

Silence filled the whole room, only our quiet breathing echoing softly.

The bullet comments flooded nonstop.

[I’m actually shipping them so hard right now!]

[What is Richard doing?!]

[If I were Richard I wouldn’t hold back at all.]

[Nancy is absolutely stunning.]

[How can he still resist this?!]

[The original novel says the main leads have no intimate scenes—could Richard be platonic?]

[Stop spreading rumors about him!]

[He almost lost control over Nancy so many times already.]

[Wait he’s clearly stalling time on purpose just so she can’t go on her date with Daniel!]

[Meanwhile Daniel’s taking care of Linda right now. She’s acting spoiled making him wash all her clothes, outerwear and even private ones—his face is burning bright red.]

[He’s been washing all night long!]

[Daniel’s secretly climbing up the ranking without anyone noticing.]

[I feel so bad for the hardworking side characters today!]

Richard’s palm slid gently along my waist and turned me around to face him.

“So beautiful.”
