Abandoned by My Four Dons: The Mafia Princess’s Revenge Chapter 08

Rafe’s face was gray. He covered it with both hands.

“Yes… but I… I never meant for Nina to die.”

Alessio’s legs gave out. He hit the pavement.

“God… I cut out my own sister’s heart for someone who wasn’t even family.”

Dario’s eyes were bloodshot. He drove his fist into Rafe’s face.

Then the gun came out, the barrel pressed against Rafe’s forehead.

“You piece of shit! Give me back my sister!”

“Over there! Those are the men from the screens!”

“That’s the Lazzari family… God, stay away from them!”

No one actually stepped forward.

The Lazzari name had never been just a name in this city.

A handful of bystanders went pale but held their phones up anyway, recording.

Others were already calling 911, hands shaking.

“Call 911… they confessed to murder on tape!”

“The evidence is right there on the screens. Get NYPD down here now!”

Lazzari security poured out from the back of the convoy.

The bodyguards moved on instinct, black suits forming a wall between the crowd and the four

men, hands resting on their holsters.

Alessio’s voice cut through, raw and hoarse.

“Stand down.”

“Boss…”

“I said, stand down!”

Matteo reached for his waist, slowly and deliberately, pulled out his gun, and dropped it on the

pavement.

Dario followed suit.

The four of them stood there, hollowed out, not moving.

Like every layer of power the Lazzari and Bellandi nomes had ever given them had finally been

stripped off.

They didn’t flinch, not until reporters and a few bolder members of the crowd started toward the

cars.

“Stop!”

“Say whatever you want about us. Just don’t touch that car.”

“Please… my… our sister is in there.”

But it was already too late.

Someone opened the door.

My body lay there for everyone to see.

Screams tore through the crowd.

“Oh my God. They actually killed her…”

The crowd erupted.

All four knelt beside the car, surrounded by a hundred cameras, making no effort to hide.

Their sobbing, the shouts of the crowd, and the rising wail of sirens all bled into one sound.

By the time NYPD arrived, the Lazzari security detall had already stepped aside.

The officer in charge looked at the four men, then up at the Midtown billboards still playing on

loop.

His face was hard to read.

“Alessio, Matteo, Dario, Rafe. We’ve received a massive data dump and a posthumous statement

filed under Nina’s name.”

“You’re being taken in on suspicion of illegal surgery, falsifying medical records, and homicide.

Come with us.”

This time, no one pulled strings. No one called in favors.

They bowed their heads and let the officers cuff them.

At the precinct.

The officers played the two videos I’d left for them. Alessio, Matteo, Dario, and Rafe confessed to

everything, in tears, holding nothing back.

Their only request was time, enough to give me a proper burial.

The day they buried me, it poured.

Matteo dropped to his knees, gripping the edges of my headstone so hard his fingertips bled. He rested his forehead against the cold granite, his broad shoulders violently shaking.

“Nina, I’m sorry. I’m so sorry.”

Dario kept wiping his eyes, but the tears wouldn’t stop. He tried to speak and couldn’t.

Alessio, for once, had nothing to say.

He placed a framed photo on the headstone with steady hands, then knelt and stayed there. He

didn’t get up.

A woman’s sobbing drifted over from behind them.

It was Gianna.

Rafe had brought her. She stood behind him, shoulders hunched.

“Alessio, Matteo, Dario… Rafe told me if I came here and apologized to Nina, you’d let me walk

away?”

Matteo and Dario gritted their teeth. “You wish.”

They moved toward her, but Alessio held them back with one arm.

His voice was barely holding together.

“Let her. Go ahead. Apologize to Nina. Do it right.”

Gianna dropped to her knees, making a dramatic show of crossing herself and bowing her head in

prayer.

“Nina, I’m sorry… I shouldn’t have lied about you. I’ll take care of your heart. I’ll live a good life with

your heart. I promise.”

From where I stood, invisible and unseen, I watched Gianna’s face. The second no one could see

her, she smirked at my portrait.

Her lips moved without making a sound.

“You lost, little bitch.”

She stood, brushed the dirt off her Chanel skirt, and slid the pout back on.

“I’ve apologized to Nina.”

Alessio smiled at her, soft, almost kind. Then he pulled a scalpel from his pocket and lunged.

“You said you were sorry? Then give Nina her heart back!”
