Abandoned by My Four Dons: The Mafia Princess’s Revenge Chapter 09

Abandoned by My Four Dons: The Mafia Princess’s Revenge Chapter 09

The NYPD officers posted at the cemetery came running.

Their guns were drawn. “Alessio, stop! Put it down or we shoot!”

Alessio didn’t even look at them. He had one hand around Gianna’s throat, his face a mask of dead

calm, and plunged the blade into her chest.

“This is all because of you! If you hadn’t lied, if you hadn’t played us all for fools, I never would’ve

touched Nina!”

Gianna’s face was turning purple under his grip. She kicked weakly, pinned beneath him, going

nowhere.

A single gunshot cracked through the heavy rain.

The bullet missed Alessio. It hit Rafe, who’d thrown himself into the line of fire.

Rafe grabbed his chest and dropped to his knees. Blood spilled from his mouth.

He choked on his own blood, his voice a wet, ragged rasp.

“Nina… is this how much it hurt? The day you died… was it like this?”

By the time the officers opened fire on Alessio, he’d already carved her chest wide open, plunging

the blade straight into the heart she stole.

The next bullet struck his head. He went down instantly.

In their last seconds, both Alessio and Rafe turned their heads at the same time. A sudden,

desperate flicker of recognition crossed their dying eyes.

“Nina!”

“Baby!”

They could see me. I stared back, stunned.

I didn’t want this. Every instinct told me to run.

The system’s voice broke in.

[Nina, your body here is dead. The portal is opening]

Relief flooded through me.

Finally. I was getting out of this nightmare.

For the first time, going home felt real. My heart was pounding with something I’d almost

forgotten. Joy.

Right before the system pulled me out, I looked at Alessio and Rafe, both staring at me, wide–eyed

and desperate.

“Save your apologies. You’ll never have my forgiveness.”

And then I was gone. I didn’t look back.

When I opened my eyes, I was back in my apartment.

My cat was sitting on my stomach, meowing at me in an offended little voice, like she was asking

where I’d been.

I sat up. Breathed in. Slow and steady.

Before, my chest had always felt like something heavy was sitting on it, every breath a fight, air

trapped with nowhere to go.

Now every breath came easy. My whole body felt weightless.

I pulled the cat against my chest, and the tears came all at once.

“I’m back. I’m really back! A healthy heart and one hundred million dollars!”

I buried my face in the cat’s belly and breathed her in.

My voice broke.

“Sweet girl, I don’t have to give you up. I get to keep you forever.”

A

year

after I got back, I started a foundation.

I put the money into scholarships for kids who couldn’t afford school and families crushed under

medical bills.

I fully funded a private sanctuary for little girls who had been abandoned by the people who

should’ve protected them.

Watching them play, watching them grow, day by day, the old wounds began to close.

Slowly, I stopped thinking about that other world at all.

Until one afternoon, the system chimed in my head one last time.

[Nina! Alessio, Matteo, Dario, and Rafe have all perished. But they couldn’t let go. They made a deal with the system for one last chance to see you.]

I blinked, and they were there, all four of them standing in front of me.

The second they saw me, every one of them was holding back tears.

Dario spoke first. His voice wouldn’t stop shaking.

“Nina… we finally found you.”

I glanced at my watch. My voice was flat.

“If you’ve got something to say, say it. Don’t waste my time.”

Alessio, who hadn’t said a word until now, stepped forward. His eyes were wet.

“Nina, we’re sorry… please come back. Let us make it up to you. Please.”

Rafe rushed forward and grabbed my hand.

“Baby, I know I messed up… I lost my mind back then. I didn’t know what I had. Can we start over?

I’ll spend the rest of my life making it right, I swear.”

I snatched my hand out of his grip, stepping back in absolute disgust.

“Don’t touch me.”

I looked at the four of them, all watching me like I was the only thing left, and my voice came out

quiet.

“You already know I don’t belong in your world. There was a time I wanted to stay forever because

you showed me what it felt like to be loved.”

I took a breath. My eyes burned.

“But you, the four people I loved more than anyone, plotted to take my heart while I was at my

lowest.”

“I will never forgive you!”

My eyes moved across their faces, all four of them wrecked and gutted, and my voice stayed even.

“I’m not going back with you. I’m doing just fine.”

The system alert blared in my head. [Time remaining: ten seconds. Ten. Nine…]

Alessio, Matteo, and Dario went white.

Rafe grabbed me and held on like I’d vanish. His eyes were wild.

“Nina, please… come back with us… I’m sorry… I swear I never meant to hurt you…”

I pushed him off and looked at them one last time.

They were all saying it. Sorry, sorry, sorry. Desperate, broken, begging.

I crossed my arms, completely unmoved.

“Save it. You’re dead to me in every universe.”

The system chimed. Time was up.

I turned around and walked away.

I didn’t look back. Not once. Behind me, four men dissolved into nothing, and I kept walking.

[The End]
