He Took Me For Weak And Helpless Chapter 19

He Took Me For Weak And Helpless Chapter 19

The bedroom door slammed shut behind them as Adrian pinned Summer between the mattress and his

body.

“That hurts… Adrian, let go of me…”

His movements paused, and some of the madness in his eyes finally receded.

He loosened his grip, but he still kept her trapped in his arms, leaving her no room to break free.

“Do you know how much it hurt, seeing you beg me for him?”

“I gave you my whole heart. I put the whole world in your hands. I let go of every ounce of pride I had and begged you to come back to me, and yet all you can think about is Ethan.”

“Summer, how can you be this cruel?”

“You were cruel first. You were the first one who didn’t trust me, the first one who hurt me, the first one who

drove me into a corner with nowhere left to go.”

“I was wrong before, and I’ll spend the rest of my life making up for it. But don’t even think about leaving me again, and don’t even think about another man.”

“From now on, without my permission, you don’t leave this room, you don’t contact anyone, and you don’t say

Ethan’s name.”

Summer went completely still, and her heart sank all the way to the bottom.

He was going to keep her under house arrest for good.

That night, Adrian fell into a deep sleep.

Summer lay there with her eyes open, wide awake. Carefully, she lifted his arm off her waist, slipped out of

bed inch by inch, and tiptoed to the door.

The handle didn’t budge. It had been deadbolted.

She turned toward the nightstand. Adrian’s phone was lying there. If she could just get it and send her location to one of Ethan’s people, she might still have a chance to get out.

But the second her fingertips brushed the screen, a hand clamped down hard around her wrist.

Sometime during the night, Adrian had woken up. There was no trace of sleep in his eyes now, only the

vicious fury of betrayal.

“What do you think you’re doing?” His voice was low, but the rage underneath it was unmistakable.

Summer’s heart nearly stopped.

“…” She opened her mouth, but no explanation came out.

Adrian tossed the phone back onto the nightstand, dragged her into his arms, and pinned her there.

“You were trying to contact him? Trying to run? Summer, am I still not good enough to you? Are you that desperate to get away from me?”

“I wasn’t trying to contact him! I just wanted to get out! I want to leave this hellhole! Adrian, how is locking me up here any different from prison?”

“The difference is that nobody in prison would love you, and I treat you like the most precious thing in the

world.”

“You’re my songbird. You belong in the gilded cage I built for you.”

Summer broke completely, shaking as she cried. “I don’t want your love. I don’t want your cage. I just want

you to let me go…”

A sharp pain tore through Adrian’s chest, but he hardened his heart and held her even tighter.

“I won’t let you go. Not even if I die.”

“Summer, just wait. Just wait a little longer, and one day you’ll understand that I really can’t live without

you…”

That night, Summer cried until she was exhausted and drifted into a hazy sleep.

Adrian stayed awake the entire time, holding her in his arms, stroking her hair over and over. In his eyes were

both a mad possessiveness and a vulnerability he couldn’t hide.

He thought that if he could imprison her body, he could keep her heart.

What he didn’t know was that at the very bottom of her despair, Summer had already quietly planted the seed

of escape.

She stopped fighting him openly. She stopped provoking him to his face.

She started eating in silence, nodding in silence, and quietly accepting every bit of his closeness.

Adrian thought she had finally softened, and little by little, he let his guard down.

Only Summer herself knew the truth.

She was enduring it.

Enduring it until he slipped. Enduring it until an opening appeared. Enduring it until she could escape this

abyss named Adrian for good.

And over the next week, Adrian really did begin lowering his guard. He even allowed her to move freely

around the villa.

One day, while Adrian was out handling business, Summer found one of the servants and held out the rare jewelry Adrian had showered her with.

“Lend me your phone, and all of this is yours.”
