Taming the Stubborn Alpha: His Tears Were Fake, But His Love Was Real Chapter 04

Taming the Stubborn Alpha: His Tears Were Fake, But His Love Was Real Chapter 04

The next morning, when I went downstairs, I was surprised to find Evander in the kitchen making breakfast.

He was dressed in a white shirt and black dress pants.

A black suit jacket lay draped over the living room sofa, clearly meant for when he headed out later.

He carried two plates of breakfast to the table, his expression slightly stiff.

“Didn’t you say a while back that you wanted to try my cooking?” he said.

“I just… figured you looked pathetic enough. Consider your wish granted. One-time offer.”

His gaze drifted, and the tips of his ears were red.

And that was when it clicked. I had mentioned it once.

“Thank you. I appreciate it.”

Having someone make me breakfast? A luxury I was more than happy to take advantage of.

I grabbed my fork and dug in.

Halfway through, my phone buzzed with a message. It was from the Bureau of Supernatural Control.

They wanted to know if I had time to meet in person—said there was something they needed to discuss.

I thought about it. I didn’t have any plans, so I replied yes. They quickly sent over an address.

I had less than an hour to get there.

I wiped my mouth, grabbed my coat from the side, and stood up.

“I’m done eating. Got something to take care of. Heading out.”

I moved to leave, just like I usually did.

But this time, Evander shot to his feet.

“Where are you going?” His voice had gone ice cold. “You’re meeting someone else?”

I nodded, confused—and then I saw his eyes go red.

At the same time, I finally noticed the comments above.

[Did she forget? She was supposed to go with him to the Bakery Café today. Donut-making class.]

[He got up two hours early for this. Picked the outfit. Did the hair. Made her breakfast. The whole nine yards.]

[Okay but why does he look kinda pitiful right now? No. Stay sharp. Feeling sorry for a man is how the tragedy starts.]

The donut thing. I’d brought it up like two weeks ago.

He never said yes, never even nodded, so I figured he wasn’t into it. Completely forgot.

“Oh, right. The donut thing.”

The light returned to his eyes instantly. He nodded, practically radiating a silent “come coax me” energy.

But one glance at my phone screen, and I broke out in a cold sweat.

You couldn’t just blow off the Bureau of Supernatural Control.

“So, about that… something kinda came up. Last minute.”

“If you still wanna go, you should go ahead without me. I’m running late, so I gotta run.”

I grabbed my coat and bolted for the door, afraid that if I hesitated even a second longer, I might get smacked by a wolf tail.

The moment I stepped outside, I heard his choked shout from behind me.

“Cressida, you liar!”

And then came the crying—loud and shrill, like a kettle hitting full boil.
