Taming the Stubborn Alpha: His Tears Were Fake, But His Love Was Real Chapter 03

Taming the Stubborn Alpha: His Tears Were Fake, But His Love Was Real Chapter 03

Breakfast was quiet, but I didn’t think much of it. I finished up and headed out for work.

By the time I got home, it was already dark.

After a full day of work, I was dead tired.

I headed straight to my bedroom, stripping off my clothes as I made my way to the bathroom.

The moment I pushed the door open, wearing only a camisole, I froze.

Evander was in the bathtub.

At the sound of the door, he opened his eyes and looked over, alert.

He was submerged in the water, completely naked, and fully in human form.

Water slid down from his collarbone, over his chest, and across his defined abs. It kept going lower. Impressive. Even striking.

Using it before was one thing. Seeing it like this was something else entirely.

He clearly hadn’t expected me to barge in. He shot upright and hugged his knees to his chest, covering himself up.

I snapped out of it and turned around just as fast.

“Sorry! So sorry! I didn’t know you were in here. I swear I wasn’t trying to—”

For once, I actually felt flustered.

There was a long pause behind me before he finally spoke, “The shower in my bathroom broke, so I came here.”

“You know I need my two-hour soak every day…”

“I get it.”

I rubbed my nose, even though there was no blood.

The comments appeared right on cue.

[Broken shower? Dude, you’re not even trying to make that lie believable.]

[Just another one of his little tricks. Staying human on purpose. Wonder what he was hoping she’d see. So hard to guess.]

[He acts all cold and distant, but deep down he’s shameless. Who taught him moves like that?]

His voice came again from behind me.

“I’m gonna be in here a while. Do you need to shower? Because if you do…”

He hesitated, his words coming out awkwardly.

“We could… share. I mean, it’s not like we haven’t before.”

“Don’t get the wrong idea. I just don’t want to bother you. It’s your bathroom, after all.”

Wow. What a carefully crafted excuse.

I could picture his face right then. Flustered, with just a hint of hope in his eyes.

It must’ve taken everything he had just to get those words out.

I almost laughed. “It is fine. Didn’t I say so last night? I’m done forcing you.”

“You can relax. I would never do anything to hurt a man’s feelings.”

I straightened my back and patted my chest with righteous confidence.

Then, under his stunned gaze, I closed the door and walked away without looking back.

The bathroom door shut, blocking my view. I braced one hand on the table and slapped my thigh with the other.

I laughed silently, head tilted back, mouth wide open.

When Evander came out of the bathroom, I was already leaning against the headboard, reading files on my laptop.

Out of the corner of my eye, I caught a glimpse of him.

His upper body was bare, and the white towel around his waist hung loose, as if it might slip at any moment.

I calmly looked away, pretending I had seen nothing.

He spoke first, “Thanks for letting me use your bathroom. It’s getting late. I should head back.”

“Okay.” I just said.

Evander paused, clearly caught off guard, then turned to leave.

But at the door, he stopped again and shot me a look. “I’m really going.”

This time, I finally looked up.

The second our eyes met, something lit up in his gaze—pure anticipation and hope.

Then it died. Just like that.

“Get some rest. Night.” I flashed him my best customer service smile.

His lips pressed into a thin line. The color drained slightly from his face.

After a brief pause, he clenched his jaw and walked out, closing the door behind him.

…Hook, line, and sinker.
