The Bureau explained that Evander ruled over the wolves.

If it weren’t for how far tech had come and how much closer humans and shifters had gotten, his kind never would’ve joined the Bonding System at all.

The day we signed the papers, it only took one look. I was a goner.

He was breathtaking.

His eyes were a deep, bright blue. It was hard not to get lost in them.

I had been so happy throughout the entire process that I failed to notice how distant he was.

It wasn’t until our first night back home, when he suggested we sleep in separate rooms, that it finally sank in.

For the first six months of our marriage, I was gentle and attentive.

And then, after getting the cold shoulder yet again, something in me just… snapped.

The moment I saw him, I froze for a second.

He was wearing a white shirt and light wash jeans. Paired with that stupidly handsome face of his, he looked like a total college heartthrob.

I’d always loved him in lighter colors—white especially.

Every time he wore something like that, I used to lay it on thick, telling him he was the hottest thing on the planet.

And every time, I wanted him even more.

Evander had clearly noticed.

Less than a month into our marriage, his entire wardrobe had been replaced with darker tones.

And now he was dressed like this again.

Was he trying to lure me?

I caught him sneaking glances at me from the corner of his eye.

His back was already ramrod straight, but somehow he managed to straighten up even more.

But I pretended not to notice and walked straight past him to the dining table.
