Taming the Stubborn Alpha: His Tears Were Fake, But His Love Was Real Chapter 05

Taming the Stubborn Alpha: His Tears Were Fake, But His Love Was Real Chapter 05

The staff member sent by the Bureau was a cute young girl, and the meeting place was set at a Cat Café.

Two hours later, I stepped out of the shop slowly, surrounded by fading meows, a match rating report still in my hand.

Evander and I… our updated match rating was ninety percent.

“Miss Hartwell, we’re very sorry. There was an error in our system, and your previous match rating with Mr. Thornton was incorrect.”

“The latest report shows your match rating is only ninety percent. You are eligible for divorce.”

“As compensation, we can arrange a new match for you.”

“What do you think about the lion from before, the one with a ninety-five percent match?”

The girl cuddled a cat in her arms, smiling sweetly as she dropped that bombshell on me.

How was I supposed to tell Evander this? Would he tear the roof off the house?

I made my way home, and when I stepped inside, Evander was still sitting on the sofa.

His face went cold the second he laid eyes on me.

I barely noticed. I walked toward him step by step, intending to bring up the match rating.

But the closer I got, the worse his expression became.

Finally, he snapped. “What is that smell on you? It’s awful.”

Did I?

I sniffed at myself. Nothing.

Then it hit me. It must have been the Cat Café.

Wolves had a strong sense of territory. Figures.

My phone chimed. It was a call from my best friend.

I picked up and headed upstairs, phone to my ear.

When she asked what I had been up to, I brushed it off.

“Just chatting with someone at a Cat Café.”

“Yeah, the tails were fluffy. Pretty cute.”

I went upstairs alone. I didn’t notice the change in his expression downstairs, or the comments above scrolling like crazy.

I grabbed some files from the study and headed back to the bedroom.

The second I opened the door, someone shoved me through it and slammed me back against it.

A warm, damp kiss fell against my lips.

The cold, sharp scent that always clung to Evander wrapped around me completely.

His lips trailed from my mouth to the shell of my ear, then down to my neck. A cool breath ghosted over the hollow of my throat.

I lifted a hand and cupped his face, only to meet a pair of tear-filled eyes.

Tears slid down his cheeks. His skin beneath my touch was burning hot.

His human ears had already shifted, replaced by those soft wolf ears.

And his tail had emerged, swaying behind him like it was begging to be touched.

His clothes were nowhere to be seen. His tail brushed insistently against my thigh and the back of my hand.

His face still cupped in my hands, he leaned into my touch, nuzzling against my palm without even realizing it.

His heat had come early. The realization made my chest tighten with concern.

“Evander—”

I didn’t get the chance. He kissed me again.

After a long moment, his tears still hadn’t stopped.

When our lips finally parted, he caught my hand, his voice breaking as he placed it against his curled-up tail.

“Touch it,” he begged, his voice small and broken.

“Please? Touch it. My tail’s cute too, you know… Don’t go liking someone else’s tail…”

“Don’t leave me…”
