Indeed Is My Weapon, Silence Is My Shield Chapter 07

The night before the birthday gala, someone knocked on my door.

I opened it to find Margaret standing there, my sweet, somewhat naive mother. She looked calm,

composed.

“Elena, may I come in?” she asked.

I nodded. “Of course.”

She stepped inside, closed the door, and took a deep breath. “Elena, besides the DNA report you showed us earlier, do you have any others?”

I shook my head. “No.”

Robert and Derek were extremely cautious. Not a single strand of hair in their rooms, they’d

cleaned up thoroughly.

The hair I’d used for the test with Margaret? I’d swiped it when I slapped him earlier.

But in a house this big, being that careful only made them more suspicious.

Margaret sighed and handed me a folder. Inside was a complete family DNA panel.

The results showed: Isabel and I were both Margaret and Robert’s daughters. Derek had no biological relation to Margaret, but he was Robert’s son.

The truth was staring us in the face.

Margaret handed me another folder: a stock transfer agreement. She was giving me all her shares. If I signed, the entire company would be mine.

I raised an eyebrow. “You trust me that much? What if I’m just another con artist after your money?”

She looked at me steadily. “I’ve had you thoroughly investigated. You’re definitely my daughter.”

Then she told me everything.

Margaret Shaw, born heiress, spoiled rotten, never had to work a day in her life. Her father, the old patriarch, found her a capable man to handle the business side of things.

That man was Robert Vance, who changed his last name to Shaw to prove his loyalty.

But a man like that never truly accepted being second fiddle. The old man kept him on a short leash, no shares, just a salary and the title of interim manager. Robert had no real power.

Margaret might’ve been naive growing up, but rich families don’t raise idiots.

She loved Robert, sure, but she knew money belonged in her own hands. Robert had no shares, but Margaret never skimped on his spending money.

Turns out, he’d been funneling that money to his high-school sweetheart, Linda. He’d been running two households for years.

Linda got pregnant around the same time as Margaret. An ultrasound showed a boy. Robert saw his chance.

He moved Linda into the hospital room next to Margaret’s. Bribed the staff. When both women gave birth, he swapped one of Margaret’s twin daughters for his newborn son.

That daughter, me, was dumped at a state facility by Robert’s mistress.

Derek was born with a weak heart. Margaret blamed herself, thinking one twin must’ve taken nutrients from the other, so she overcompensated.

Robert fed her the line: boys need to be raised tough, girls need to be pampered.

So Isabel grew up naive and sheltered, while Derek was groomed as the heir.

Once Derek took over the company, grabbed the shares, and changed his name back to Vance, the

entire Shaw fortune would become theirs.

They’d planned it perfectly, until I showed up.

Finding me was pure accident. I looked exactly like Margaret’s late mother. She couldn’t ignore it.

She ordered a DNA test and brought me home. Robert convinced her the swap must’ve involved the

girl, not the boy.

But when I kept pushing for a group DNA test, and when Robert and Derek both refused, Margaret’s

suspicions snapped into focus. She launched her own secret investigation.

She couldn’t give the shares to Isabel, the girl had spent too long with Robert and Derek, and she

was too easily manipulated.

But Margaret had looked into my background. I’d been raised tough, smart, and independent.

She planned to announce me as heir at the birthday gala. And to lock it in, she needed me to sign the

agreement and notarize it with her.

Free money walking through the door? I signed without a second thought.
