Pregnant, Panicked, and Chased by My CEO Husband Chapter 17

Pregnant, Panicked, and Chased by My CEO Husband Chapter 17

The drug took effect.

But it was not the kind of drug Gideon had claimed would knock Finn unconscious.

It was a drug that made him lose control.

There was no warning at all. His fangs sank into me again, and the pain was sharp enough to make me cry out.

“Finn!”

He had completely lost control of himself.

Calling his name did nothing.

My phone vibrated on the couch. I reached for it, but Finn knocked it away.

Above us, the glittering three-pronged chandelier trembled under the force of his unstable power.

From that angle, Finn looked utterly out of his mind as he pinned me beneath him and took what he wanted.

His animal instincts had taken over.

When he looked at me, he was looking only at prey.

Just as that woman had said, first he would drink my blood, then swallow me whole.

In that daze, I seemed to remember why I was so afraid of snakes.

What I feared was Finn.

Back in the early frontier days, I had died by his hand.

When I died, he was still biting into my neck.

My entire body had been covered in bloody puncture wounds.

The pain had gone down to the bone.

Back then, I had called him the same way.

“Finn, let me go.”

Then my soul had slipped away, and I died.

This time, I still could not push him off.

“Finn. Finn!”

I tried to snap him back to his senses.

He did not move. He only rubbed greedily against the hollow of my neck.

My strength drained away, and all I could do was wait for death.

Suddenly, urgent knocking sounded from outside the door.

“Marina!”

That voice was so familiar. It was Gideon.

At the sound from outside, Finn seemed to regain a little awareness.

He gave me a long, unreadable look, then scooped me up by the waist and carried me barefoot into the basement.

Down there was a panic room he had built for me.

He had said that if he was not home and someone dangerous broke in, I could hide inside.

Now he locked me in that room.

In my panic, I grabbed wildly at his upper body and suddenly touched something cold and soft.

When he set me on the bed, I dropped backward and yanked at the buttons of his shirt. His chest came into view.

A much larger spread of snake scales filled my sight.

Panic flashed through his eyes, and he turned his back to me.

I did not know what had been triggered inside me, but I suddenly started retching uncontrollably.

Finn pulled himself back together and let out an icy scoff.

“You hate me that much?”

He bent down and bit a mark hard into my shoulder, the gesture carrying a vicious edge of revenge.

“You knew I wasn’t human all along, didn’t you?”

I nodded weakly.

The next second, nausea rose in me again.

He suddenly laughed and pressed a button on the remote.

Red warning lights came on around the room, and the security system activated.

“What is this?” I asked.

He answered, “If you want me dead that badly, then we’ll die together.

“This panic room can keep someone alive, but in one hour, it can kill them, too.”

He pointed to a silver box embedded in the wall.

“The bomb will go off, and we’ll meet again in hell.”

I forced myself to reach for the hem of his shirt, but he avoided my hand.

“Finn, we have a baby—”

He glanced at me coldly, stepped back, and snapped the key in half.

The door slammed shut. All I caught was his lonely, desolate silhouette.

There was no signal inside at all.

I staggered across the floor and checked everywhere.

The room was completely sealed.

The door was custom-built and impossibly heavy.

Worse, the moment he left, the silver box in the wall began counting down.

I really had not expected him to go this far.

This time, I was truly waiting to die.
