Pregnant, Panicked, and Chased by My CEO Husband Chapter 18

Pregnant, Panicked, and Chased by My CEO Husband Chapter 18

I did not know how much time had passed before I heard a faint tremor from aboveground.

There must have been a violent explosion somewhere for the vibration to reach this far.

A while later, Georgia found her way down to the basement.

“Marina Sullivan!”

I pressed myself against the door and shouted, “I’m in here!”

“Where’s the key?”

“Georgia, you need to go. Finn snapped the key, and there’s a bomb in here.”

“A bomb?” Her voice shook.

A series of heavy thuds came from outside as Georgia started pounding on the door.

I asked, “Where’s Finn?”

“He ran! When I set off the explosion in your backyard, he had just finished killing Gideon and the others. He threw the bodies into the fire and ran. Oh my God, you have no idea how terrifying his tail was. It was as tall as a two-story house. One sweep, and more than a dozen people went straight into the flames!”

I let out a weak laugh. “You’re exaggerating.”

She forced herself to calm down and asked, “How much time is left? I’ll go find someone.”

“Five minutes.”

“…”

I could picture Georgia outside, clutching her head and screaming like someone had just handed her a dry, unsweetened bran muffin.

“Damn it, I’m not a locksmith, and I don’t know how to defuse a bomb!”

I comforted her.

“Finn has always been ruthless once he makes up his mind. Even if you found an expert, they wouldn’t get it open. Go upstairs.”

Outside, she let out a sharp, broken sob.

I said, “My cats, dogs, parrot, and fish need you to look after them. My charity work needs you to take over, too. Besides, humans are just ghosts in their larval stage. I’m on the countdown to adulthood, so congratulate me on graduating into ghosthood.”

“…I don’t even know what to say to you.”

“Three minutes left.”

She shouted until her voice nearly broke. “I don’t want to lose you!”

I wailed back, “We’ll see each other in the afterlife eventually, so stop being dramatic. I’m heading over there broke as hell, so you need to make serious money and keep sending me offerings. Otherwise, when you die, we’ll both end up sleeping under a bridge in the afterlife.”

She was sobbing so hard she could barely breathe.

“That’s true. You’re leaving in such a hurry with nothing packed, so I’ll keep things set up for you over here.”

I said, “Roses are red.”

She answered, “Send hot men to my bed. Got it. I’ll make sure the first offerings I send are hot male models, so enjoy yourself first.”

“Thank you. You really are my best friend. Two minutes.”

She turned and ran.

As she ran, she yelled, “Marina, don’t you dare forget me when you become a ghost!”

Only after she left did sadness finally settle over me.

Damn it, Finn. I had loved him once, and he had still gone this far.

He might as well have bitten me to death in one mouthful. At least that would have been quick.

The ticking countdown made my heart tighten. This was worse than being carved apart inch by inch.

I had loved him, and I did not hate him.

After all, if the System had not come to me back then and I had never met Finn, I would already have been married to a rich bald man who was paralyzed from the waist down and covered in bedsores.

So even if I had suspected this was a romance scam, Finn had at least truly put his body on the line, and the man absolutely delivered in bed.

I could die without regrets.

“Beep. Beep. Beep.”

The burning I expected never came. Instead, the door clicked open.

A rose popped out.
