Pregnant, Panicked, and Chased by My CEO Husband Chapter 14

Pregnant, Panicked, and Chased by My CEO Husband Chapter 14

For the next week, every night after work, I crammed in a little more research on snake behavior.

A painfully saccharine rom-com was playing on the TV when Finn suddenly appeared behind me.

When he saw that I was ignoring him, he moved closer and sat down on the couch beside me.

I had just finished reading a short folk-horror story, so I quietly shifted away.

He was wearing a casual T-shirt. Without warning, he pulled my hand over and pressed it against his abs.

They were hot to the touch.

I quickly pulled my hand back.

He said, “Your Instagram Story said you wanted to come home at night, lie on a set of abs, and recite Adam Smith.”

I died inside. I had lost a bet with my coworkers earlier that day, and they had made me post that.

“I’m not taking comps. I don’t need to recite Adam Smith.”

“Great thinkers are worth studying for life.”

He bit his lip, his eyes turning cold. “I understand. You just don’t want to use my abs.”

Then he stared into the air and said seriously, “Which man—”

I immediately lay down. “Fine, fine, I’ll recite it!”

After all these years, the only thing I could remember was, “The invisible hand is apparently invisible because you can’t see it, but it still handles things.”

I thought for a second, then added, “Invisible hand? If I can’t see it, do I get to skip class?”

Finn was not listening to whatever nonsense I was saying.

He played with my hand, first comparing his big hand to my smaller one, then comparing his arm to mine.

As he kept comparing, he eventually held both hands in a wide V and measured my face.

A chill instantly ran down my back.

The story I had just finished reading was about a measuring serpent.

Before it ate its prey, it would first measure the prey’s size to see whether it could swallow them whole.

“Baby, you’re so soft.”

He lifted my hand and gently bit it.

My whole body jolted.

“Are you hungry?”

He froze. “A little, but not very—”

“I’ll go make you spaghetti.”

I was terrible at cooking and only knew how to make spaghetti.

It was not as if I was the one eating it anyway.

If I did not get him completely stuffed tonight, my name was not Marina Sullivan.

He ate the first plate of spaghetti with meat sauce with great enjoyment.

As he ate, he looked up at me. “Baby, you haven’t cooked for me in so long.”

Then he could have more.

By the time I brought him the fourth plate, he looked troubled. “I don’t think I can eat anymore. My stomach hurts.”

“Are you sure you’re full?”

“Yes. You should go to sleep first.”

His brows were drawn together, and one hand pressed against his stomach.

I was about to leave, but my heart softened despite myself.

“I’ll rub it for you.”

My hand moved in slow circles over his abdomen.

Finn let out a low sound, and his face grew redder and redder.

I did not notice.

All I could think of was the nightmare image of a huge black snake swallowing me whole, leaving me stuck in its stomach for half a year while it digested me.

Nope. I could not handle that.

He was much taller than me. While I sat there, his shadow fell over me.

When he bit my earlobe, my whole body went cold.

I tried to awaken his conscience.

“Finn, don’t move again, or you’re going back to eat more spaghetti.”

That scared him. He lifted his head and sat up straight with perfect posture.
