She Tried to Ruin My Future and I Ruined Her First Chapter 09

All of us were taken to the local police precinct nearby. 

My parents came as soon as they got the news, and so 

did school administrators. Before long, the place was 

packed wall to wall. 

Inside the interview room, Lila still insisted that I was 

the one who had switched her pouch. 

“Lila Boone,” the officer said, “you claim Sienna switched your pouch. Do you remember what the pouch holding the real passes looked like?” 

Lila froze, “It was black, with a polar bear decal. Brand 

new..” 

The officer nodded. “Think carefully. The night before the exam, where did you leave it?” 

Her eyes flickered. “On… on the table in my hotel 

room.” 

“Can anyone confirm that?” 

“I… I had the room to myself. So no.” 

The officer nodded again, then turned to me. “Sienna Hart, what about you? Did you go to Lila’s room at any point the night before the exam?” 

“No.” 

I slid my phone across the table. 

“This is a copy of the hallway’s CCTV. I stayed in my room from 7:00 PM until the morning briefing. I never entered the hallway. The hotel’s digital log will show my keycard was never used on Lila’s door, or any door other than my own.” 

I had known from the start that Lila would not let this 

go quietly. 

That was why, the first time I checked out, I copied the security footage and saved it. 

The officer reviewed the footage and the keycard 

records. 

Everything matched what I had said. 

I had never gone to Lila’s room. That meant I could not have switched anything. 

Lila’s face kept getting worse. Her body had already 

started to shake. 

Then the officer took out an evidence bag. 

Inside were several jagged scraps of paper. 

“These were recovered from a trash bin area at the hotel. After reconstruction, we confirmed they were part of Evan’s admission ticket. Lila, do you recognize 

this?” 

Her eyes went huge. 

Her whole body seemed to go limp at once, and she nearly slid right out of the chair. 

Evan jerked his head up too, staring at the scraps in the bag like he could not process what he was seeing. “That’s… my pass? How could it have been cut up? Lila, didn’t you say Sienna stole it? Why is it in pieces?” 

The officer looked at Lila and spoke in a firm, even 

tone. 

“According to our investigation, you entered the hotel’s shared trash area the night before the exam. The security footage shows you disposing of paper 

scraps consistent with these. We also found a pair of scissors in your room drawer, and paper fibers 

matching the pass were still on the blades.” 

At that point, every piece of evidence pointed to her. 

There was nowhere left for her to run. 

She broke down and started sobbing on the spot. 

“That’s not what happened. I didn’t mean to… I was 

trying to cut up Sienna’s pass!” 

Her words stunned the room silent. 

“I didn’t know I grabbed the wrong one,” she cried. “I 

really didn’t mean it. And besides, I was late too, 

wasn’t I?” 

Then, somehow, she still kept going. 

“It was just bad luck, Evan. It was fate! Why are you looking at me like I’m a monster?” 

Everyone in the room looked genuinely stunned. 

One of the students blurted out, “Lila, I trusted you. How can you say something that shameless?” 

But Lila did not seem to think anything was wrong with 

it. 

“You all said the same thing about Sienna, didn’t you?” she shot back. “So why is it different when it happens to you? That makes you hypocrites.” 

The room went dead silent. 

I walked over to her and looked down at her from where she sat collapsed in that chair. 

“Lila,” I said, “I really want to know something. Why did you hate me this much?”
