She Tried to Ruin My Future and I Ruined Her First Chapter 02

To beat the morning traffic, the entire class had checked into a hotel within walking distance of Ridgeview High.

The afternoon before the exam, everyone gathered in the hotel conference room to go over the testing site details one last time when Lila suddenly stood up.

She was holding a brand-new file pouch as she walked to the center of the room. “Guys, there’s something I wanted to ask.”

Her voice was bright and clear, and heads lifted all around the room.

“Tomorrow’s the exam, and your admission ticket is the most important thing you’ll need. I’m worried someone might lose theirs by accident, or forget it in the rush tomorrow morning, so… why don’t I hold onto all of them for everyone?”

Everyone there knew exactly how important those passes were.

No one answered.

Lila stood there awkwardly, her face getting paler by the second.

“I’m in.”

Evan was the first one to speak up. He turned to the room with a smile and said, “I think Lila’s idea is great. She’s trying to help all of us here. Nobody’s going to be ungrateful about that, right?”

Evan was one of the most popular guys in school, so naturally his words carried weight. A bunch of people stood up almost right away.

“I’m in too. Honestly, I’ve been scared of losing mine.”

“Same. Lila’s super careful. I’d trust her with it.”

One by one, people pulled out their admission tickets and handed them over.

Lila accepted each one carefully and tucked them into the pouch with exaggerated care. Then she glanced at Evan with a shy little smile.

“Don’t worry, everyone. I’ll keep them safe and hand them back outside the testing center tomorrow morning.”

When she stopped in front of me, I said no.

“Thanks, Lila, but I’d rather keep track of my own things myself.”

The smile faltered.

Her eyes reddened almost instantly, her voice turning into a fragile whisper. “Sienna… do you ldistrust me that much? Or is it because I’m just the scholarship girl. You don’t think I’m capable of handling something this important?”

I just stared at her. What did money have to do with any of this?

Seeing that she was about to cry, I still tried to explain patiently. “That’s not what I meant. I just prefer keeping my own things with me.”

It was like she could not understand plain English. Tears came the second I finished speaking.

“Everyone else trusts me, so why don’t you?” she asked, voice shaking harder with every word.

“I know what this is. You’ve always looked down on me. You look down on me for being a scholarship kid, and you think I’m not good enough to do something for you.”

The more she said, the more wronged she acted, and the way she looked at me grew more and more resentful.

“Sienna, that’s way too far,” someone snapped immediately.

“Lila was just trying to help. How could you say something like that?”

“Seriously. It’s just a piece of paper. Stop acting like such a snob.”

“So the rest of us can trust her, but you have to make yourself special?”

Evan strode right over to my table and slammed a book down in front of me.

“Sienna, are you done yet? Lila was trying to do something nice for everyone. You don’t have to appreciate it, but did you really have to make her cry too?”

“She cried on her own,” I shot back. “All I said was that I didn’t want her holding my admission ticket.”

“You didn’t want her to hold it?”

Evan let out a cold laugh.

I was about to snap back when his hand shot out, snatching my pass right off the desk.

“What makes you so special?” he said sharply.

“Lila’s had it hard enough already. She just wanted to do something for the class. Couldn’t you show a little understanding for once? God, you’re unbelievable.”

Then he shoved my pass into Lila’s hand.

“Don’t let her get to you, Lila.”

Lila took it and slipped it into the pouch in one smooth motion, quick and practiced.

Then she looked up at me, something unreadable flickering in her eyes. “Don’t worry, Sienna. I’ll take very good care of your admission ticket.”
