You Wanted Space! We’re Done, Dr. Whitmore Chapter 14

A snowflake landed on my lashes.

The cold made me blink.

And then.

It hit me.

That day Chase had flown back early. The snow outside the conference room windows.

“You really don’t remember me at all, do you?”

I stopped in my tracks.

Turned to look at him.

Uncertain.

“The ‘husband’ from back then-that was you?”

Chase hummed.

“Mm-hmm.”

The corners of his mouth ticked up.

“Finally remembered?”

Years ago.

Another snowy day.

I was playing house in the park with a group of kids. The game needed a “husband.”

No one wanted the role.

So I pulled the nearest boy-the one building a snowman by himself-and made him play my husband.

I didn’t even know his name.

Years later.

We found each other again.

Chase looked at me, his gaze steady and warm.

“You never answered my question.”

I looked down.

At our interlaced fingers.

Then I smiled.

“That’s your answer.”
