You Trusted Her. Now Live as Me Chapter 02

Gavin stared at the mother who had spoiled him for more than twenty years, his face full of disbelief.

“Mother, you hit me?”

Margaret looked at him with open disgust.

“Don’t call me Mother.”

“I’ve told you before. When Gavin’s around, I can pretend to tolerate you.”

“But when he isn’t here, I don’t have time to play nice. If Gavin hadn’t insisted on marrying you, a poor, uneducated girl from some mountain town like you wouldn’t even be good enough to work as a maid for the Whitmores.”

“You dared raise your voice at my son. Consider yourself lucky I let it go that easily.”

Gavin looked at Grandpa Whitmore and his father. Neither of them seemed surprised.

That was when he finally understood.

So this was how Nora Bennett had lived through three years of marriage.

His mind went numb.

He lost his appetite and came straight to Sienna’s house to get me.

By the time he arrived, I’d already had an electrician repair the wiring in her upscale home.

The moment Sienna saw Gavin, panic flashed across her face.

“Mrs. Whitmore, y-you’re here?”

“I was just scared, so I bothered Mr. Whitmore. Please don’t misunderstand.”

With that expression and tone, it would’ve been harder not to misunderstand.

Gavin didn’t even look at her. His eyes stayed fixed on me.

His voice held a gentleness I hadn’t heard in a long time.

“If everything’s taken care of, let’s go home. I need to talk to you.”

Ignored, Sienna suddenly dropped to her knees in front of Gavin, crying pitifully.

“Mrs. Whitmore, are you angry?”

“I swear, there’s really nothing going on between Mr. Whitmore and me.”

“This all started because of me. If you’re mad, yell at me or whatever. I won’t fight back.”

Gavin looked irritated.

“I’m not angry. Get up.”

Sienna stubbornly shook her head.

“I won’t get up until Mrs. Whitmore stops being angry.”

For the first time, Gavin seemed to find Sienna unreasonable.

I helped Sienna to her feet and looked coldly at Gavin.

“Do you really have to make things difficult for a new assistant?”

Those were the exact words Gavin had once said to me in the previous timeline.

Right before I left, they had replayed endlessly in my mind.

Now I returned them to him word for word.

Gavin’s face went from red to pale.

“I’m making things difficult for her? I haven’t done anything!”

He looked at Sienna, anger roaring beneath his eyes.

“Sienna, you weren’t like this before. Why do you keep accusing people now?”

Sienna looked as though she’d been terribly wronged, tears spilling down her face.

“Mrs. Whitmore, if that’s what you say happened, then that’s what happened.”

Gavin was left speechless.

He grabbed my hand.

“Let’s go home first.”

Sienna spread her arms and blocked his path.

“Mrs. Whitmore, I admit I like Mr. Whitmore, but he doesn’t feel that way about me. Please don’t blame him!”

Then she gave Gavin a provocative little smile.

Gavin finally lost his patience and moved her aside.

“Get out of the way!”

But Sienna slipped. She lost her balance, and got hurt .

“It hurts…”

I froze.

Sienna wasn’t supposed to injure the back of her head until a week later. Why had it happened early?

Could history actually be changed?

Then Grandma…

Gavin came back to his senses and immediately crouched beside Sienna in concern.

“Sienna, are you okay? I didn’t mean to. You just wouldn’t stop blocking me…”

“I’ll take you to the hospital right now.”

But Sienna didn’t even look at him.

She clutched desperately at my pant leg and pleaded.

“Mr. Whitmore, Mrs. Whitmore only pushed me because she loves you so much. I don’t mind getting hurt. Please don’t be angry with her.”
