While She Buried Her Grandfather, He Was Walking Down The Aisle Chapter 10

“Enough!”

Liam roared.

But Natalie knew she was in trouble after irritating him. She figured she had nothing left to

lose.

“Liam, you lunatic. If you want to shut me up, just kill me.”

Those words planted something in his head.

He grabbed a kitchen knife and cut out her tongue.

Then he stabbed her on the chest. Over and over.

Blood pooled on the floor. It got all over his hands.

He flinched like he’d been burned. Then he realized what he’d done.

But Natalie was already gone.

His first thought was to run.

His second thought was to take me with him.

He ran to my house and shouted through the gate.

“Ava, I was wrong. I know I was wrong.”

“That bitch Natalie will never come between us again. From now on, it’ll just be the two of

us.”

“Ava, I didn’t know how to treasure you back then. Give me one more chance. I’ll treat you

right. Come back to L.A. with me. I’ll never hurt you again.”

The gate opened.

Liam looked up, hope in his eyes. He wanted to see me. He wanted me to say yes.

But it wasn’t me. It was Lucas.

Lucas laughed. “You still haven’t given up?”

“Ava was young and stupid back then. She’s not anymore. Why would she want a lifetime of

suffering with you?”

“Stop bothering my girlfriend.”

“Oh, and the cops are on their way. Good luck.”

As if on cue, sirens wailed at the bottom of the hill.

Liam didn’t get far. They caught him fast.

Killing Natalie was an open-and-shut case. He got life in prison, regretting what he had done.

I didn’t get to see him for the last time. And I didn’t want to.

After that, I never heard about Liam. I didn’t go looking for news.

I didn’t care if he could pull himself together or what happened to him.

His regret meant nothing to me. I laughed it off.

I had Lucas now.

Liam was just a mistake I made when I was young and stupid.

I took Lucas to my grandfather’s grave.

Grandpa loved me more than anyone. And because of a man like Liam, I didn’t even get to

say goodbye.

That’s when I finally saw how foolish I’d been.

For a man like that, I threw away so much.

Lucas knelt in front of the gravestone and bowed twice.

“Grandpa, don’t worry. I truly love Ava. I’ll take good care of her.”

His words warmed my heart.

Lucas treated me well. Unlike Liam, he told everyone I was his only wife.

I stopped thinking about Liam in my free time. He was a closed chapter.

Three years later, I let go of my fear and said yes to his proposal.

The shadow Liam left over my life had made marriage feel terrifying.

But Lucas healed me. I realized it was actually simple.

“In good times and bad, in sickness and health, I will love and cherish you forever.”

In the sunlight, I heard the pastor’s voice.

And my own.

“I do.”
