When Love Turns to Ashes Chapter 01

When Love Turns to Ashes Chapter 01

In the sixth year of our relationship, I found a gift box containing an engagement ring in the coat pocket of my boyfriend, Landon Pierce.

On my birthday, I was filled with anticipation, but I saw a picture of him with another girl going in and out of a fancy couple’s restaurant on Instagram.

I hurriedly took a taxi to the restaurant and witnessed him proposing to someone on one knee. Everyone around was cheering and urging them to be together quickly.

After accumulating disappointment, I didn’t make a scene like I used to. I just quietly dialed my dad’s phone number.

“Dad, I agreed to marry into the Sterling family and started preparing for the wedding.”

Upon hearing what I said, my dad was first startled, then his tone was filled with joy.

“Good girl, you finally came to your senses. The most important thing in marriage is compatibility in social status. You can taste the sweetness of the outside treats, but we can’t possibly eat cookies

for the rest of our lives!”

I let out a soft “hmm” and stood alone in the lobby of the couple’s restaurant, watching Landon and that girl kissing amidst the cheers of the crowd.

Everyone was cheering for them, but I stood still like a stiff puppet, not moving at all.

My dad also heard the commotion over here and urged me, “So when are you going back home to meet the heir of the Sterling family? They have been urging for the engagement for a while now.”

Three days later, after I finish everything here, I will go home immediately.

After hanging up the phone, perhaps feeling out of place among the lively crowd, Landon tremblingly helped the girl put on the ring, then, upon standing up, he saw me.

We both gazed at each other from a distance through the crowd. Landon seemed slightly surprised by my presence, furrowing his brow. Then, he took the girl’s hand and returned to his seat.

Roses, champagne, a melodious love piano piece, and a romantic candlelit dinner… In the six years I was with him, I had never been to a place like this to eat.

I turned around and left, Landon’s good buddies were also there, and I saw the photo on one of their Instagram accounts.

Before leaving, I heard them whistling and applauding, saying, “You two are truly a perfect match,

and after all these years, you have finally achieved success!”

Come on, everyone, cheers to the newlyweds, may they live happily ever after!

I chuckled bitterly in my heart. For the past six years, none of Landon’s friends and brothers who were by his side knew about our relationship, but they all knew about Landon’s friendship with that girl.

An unnamed sourness crept into my heart.

Today is my birthday. At first, the sweetness I felt when I found the ring in his coat pocket has now turned into a poison that tortures me.

After taking a taxi, I returned home and saw the birthday cake delivered by the delivery person at the doorstep. The greeting card on the outside of the box had Landon’s handwriting: “Wishing my darling a happy birthday and all the best.”

The delivery guy smiled at me with envy, “Miss, your boyfriend is really good to you. He ordered the most expensive cake in our store, and he even wrote a greeting card himself!”

I pushed open the door and casually placed the cake on the table. It turned out, he still remembered that today was my birthday, but what did he do today?

I lay down on the sofa feeling a bit weak, looking at the empty room, my eyes turning red

unconsciously.

The room was filled with traces of our life together, but my boyfriend bought an engagement ring and proposed to another woman.

Now, seeing that cake, I am left with nothing but disgust and nausea.

I had been sitting on the sofa for a long time, until I had almost forgotten the time, when the door of the apartment was suddenly opened.
