When I Was Reborn, I Froze All Her Accounts Chapter 02

Sensing the argument spiraling out of hand, Olivia interjected quickly.

“Ethan, don’t talk like that. I’m already over the moon that Scarlett showed up—there’s no picking on me at all.”

Watching her indulge in her dramatic act, I stepped forward, took her hand in mine, and smiled sweetly.

“Nonsense, Olivia. Why on earth would I ever be upset with you?”

Ethan visibly relaxed and let out a scoff.

“At least you know your place.”

My smile never faltered as I spoke clearly for everyone nearby to hear.

“Face it—Ethan’s nothing but garbage, and you’re just the type who’s desperate to pick up other people’s garbage.”

The entire ballroom fell dead silent in an instant. Olivia’s grin froze completely on her face, while Ethan’s face turned livid with rage.

“Scarlett!”

He lunged forward, raising his hand to strike me across the face. I dodged sideways at the last second, catching his wrist firmly mid‑swing.

“Ethan, you’ve got some nerve, don’t you?”

“If you so much as lay a hand on me tonight, the fallout will be way more than the Rossi family’s second son can handle.”

Ethan’s face flickered with embarrassment and rage.

“You—!”

I once adored Ethan’s good looks and his unyielding spirit. When we were together, I’d always given in to him and catered to his every whim. My sudden unflinching public takedown clearly struck a nerve.

Still, he was trapped. The Rossi family’s business relied heavily on ongoing partnerships with the Moretti corporation, so he dared not break ties with me completely.

Veins bulging on his forehead with frustration, he ripped his arm free from my grip.

“Watch your mouth, Scarlett!”

I feigned genuine confusion.

“What am I supposed to watch? Am I not stating plain facts?”

Sensing the rising tension, a classmate stepped in awkwardly, trying to smooth things over.

“C’mon guys, don’t start fighting. This is Olivia’s graduation party, let’s keep it chill.”

“Yeah, Scarlett, calm down. You’ve always had a bit of a short fuse.”

“Though speaking of it… where’d Olivia suddenly get all this funds? Everyone knows the Morettis treat you well, but still…”

The implication hung in the air, unspoken but unmistakable: she wasn’t really family, after all. Catching herself before she crossed a line, the girl let the sentence die.

Olivia quickly regained her composure, her eyes already glistening with tears.

“It’s not funds from the Morettis at all. Right after high school, I got a job working at the Rossi family’s company.”

“I was always the first one in the office and the last to leave every single day. Ethan took pity on me and gave me a generous pay.”

“I’ve always been grateful for everyone’s kindness over the years, and I just wanted to give a little back now that I could.”

Her voice trembled with emotion as tears spilled down her cheeks, turning the blame straight onto me.

“Scarlett, Ethan and I aren’t what you think we are. How can you say such awful things about me?”

Even Ms. Reed, our teacher, looked moved, her eyes growing misty.

“You’ve always been such a thoughtful kid, Olivia, and it’s really nice to see you giving back to people who helped you.”

Another classmate chimed in.

“Totally right, Ms. Reed. Having lots of family funds doesn’t mean much when you don’t work for it. She earned every cent herself, not like some spoiled rich girl.”

The crowd’s opinion flipped completely in an instant, and my classmates cast me judgmental glances.

“…Is Scarlett being totally unreasonable here?”

“Just because she’s wealthy does she get to bully people? Olivia worked for every cent she spent on this party!”

“Rich people really think they’re above everyone else, huh? She didn’t even come to celebrate—she came just to start trouble.”

I kept my face cold and impassive, tuning out all the snide whispers.

Ethan stroked Olivia’s back soothingly, fixing me with a frigid glare.

“Come on, Olivia. Let’s go. She wouldn’t know what it’s like to work for a buck if it hit her in the face.”

They turned their backs on me completely, going off to comfort the teacher and the rest of the class.

Ethan never left Olivia’s side the whole night—refilling her glass, stepping in to take drinks meant for her, even passing her tissues every time her eyes got misty.

Every small gesture was so natural and intimate there was no denying they were clearly a couple.
