Two Weddings, One Wedlock Chapter 04 The Class Reunion Trap

“Yeah, I shipped them so hard back then. They were disgusting cute….”

About twenty or thirty people were packed inside the private room. The second the door opened, every eye turned toward me.

I froze for a second, thinking I’d walked into the wrong room.

Just as I was double-checking, Sofia stepped out of the crowd with a bright, fake smile.

“Mia, thanks God you’re finally here!”

Oliver stood right next to her.

“It’s our high school reunion. Sofia thought you’d be bored alone, so I invited you. We were just talking about old times.”

He raised his voice noticeably, staring at me like he was waiting for me to break.

I just said “My pleasure” casually and sat down.

Free food was free food – ain’t no way I was skipping this.

Oliver’s face darkened slightly.

“I’ve been having really bad episodes lately, and Oliver just couldn’t leave me alone. He’s always been this sweet and caring.”

Sofia giggled and stuck her tongue out at me.

“Mia, don’t get the wrong idea. I wouldn’t want to ruin your marriage.”

I held my bowl of soup and didn’t even look up.

“You’re sick. I understand.”

Sofia bit her lip, then suddenly let out a dramatic little whine. She turned to Oliver, holding up her hand like she was hurt, “Oliver, I’m so clumsy. I am terrible at peeling even shrimp.”

Oliver laughed softly, his gaze sickeningly gentle.

“It’s okay. I’ll do it for you.”

“But it’s such a hassle. You won’t get annoyed with me, right?” She tugged on his arm, acting childish.

“Just sit there and let me feed you, sweetie pie.”

Oliver kept smiling, but his eyes kept darting over to me, desperate to catch any sign of jealousy.

I only glanced once, then went back to my food.

Under the dim lights, Oliver’s expression turned even darker.

Sofia, though, looked more pleased than ever. She leaned her head on his shoulder.

“Oliver, you’re the best to me.”

“I still remember the mile run for fitness test in high school. I fell down, and you gave me a piggyback to the nurse’s office. You even told me stupid jokes to make me stop crying. It feels like yesterday…”

She rambled on for ages, then suddenly covered her mouth like she’d made a mistake.

“Oops, maybe I shouldn’t have brought that up!”

“Mia, don’t be upset. We’re just old classmates. It doesn’t mean anything.”

But her eyes were glowing with pride and provocation.

This wasn’t the first time Sofia had used these cheap tricks.

She’d provoke me, then wait for Oliver to defend her and yell at me.

But I didn’t care anymore. I wasn’t going to fight with her.

Apparently, that bothered someone.

Oliver suddenly stood up, pulled away from Sofia’s touch, and stared at me.

“Mia, are you really not going to react at all?”

“React to what?” I asked, confused.

Oliver frowned sharply.

“Watching me peel shrimp for Sofia… doesn’t that hurt you?”

“No.”

The food here was actually pretty good.

Oliver clenched his fists, his voice urgent and frustrated.

“Then why are you ignoring me? Why won’t you even talk to me?!”

“Why aren’t you angry when you see me with someone else?”

“You were never like this before!”

I stared at him, almost dazed.

Once upon a time, the one begging for answers had been me.

The room fell into an awkward silence.

The others quickly tried to lighten the mood, suggesting to play Truth or Dare.

Just her luck, Sofia was the first to go- and she picked truth.

When someone asked, “Do you have a crush on anyone right now?”

She blushed deeply, staring directly at Oliver, and whispered shyly,

“Yes… I do.”

“And he’s right here in this room.”

The whole room erupted in cheers and teasing whistles.

Everyone’s eyes flickered back and forth between Oliver and Sofia, full of knowing smirks.
