Two Weddings, One Wedlock Chapter 03 The Last Straw
“I shouldn’t have lied and told you there was an emergency at work. I just didn’t want you to overthink it.”
“Mm, I get it.”
I replied casually, barely paying attention.
“Mia?”
Oliver stared at me, clearly caught off guard. “You’re not angry?”
“Why would I be?”
I let out a soft, empty laugh, “You were helping someone. It’s a serious matter of life and death. I understand.”
“No, you must be angry. I know you.”
He suddenly grabbed my hand, his tone firm, “You’re jealous that I care about Sofia.”
“Not at all.”
I blinked innocently, “You are just friends. Looking out for each other is completely normal.”
Oliver stared at me in disbelief.
He hardly ever showed weakness, he’d obviously expected a fight, not this cold, calm indifference.
But I truly wasn’t angry anymore. I just didn’t care.
Not about him, not about her, not about any of it.
He wasn’t worth my energy.
Oliver pressed his lips into a tight line. His eyes flicked down to the prescription bag in my hand.
“Mia, are you sick?”
For once, his voice sounded genuinely alarmed.
I nodded, my hand instinctively moving to my lower stomach.
“I had a minor operation a few days ago.”
“Appendicitis?!”
He snapped, his face twisting with irritation.
“Why didn’t you tell me? I should’ve been there with you!”
Oliver was furious.
His jaw was tight, and there was a flash of anger in his eyes.
I found it almost amusing, “It was nothing serious. I didn’t want to bother you.”
Oliver stared at me, his breathing heavy, “Mia, have you forgotten? I’m your husband.”
“Adults ought to have the sense not to burden other people.”
I sighed softly, “You’re the one who said that. Remember?”
Two weeks ago, I’d been in a traffic accident.
No broken bones, but I’d escaped death by a hair. When I was in the emergency room, my heart racing with fear.
I was absolutely terrified, all I wanted was for him to be there.
But when I called him, he’d only responded coldly,
“Are you kidding me? You can’t even cross a street safely? This is your own fault.”
“Can you just grow up and stop bothering me with this stupid drama?”
At that exact moment, he was with Sofia at some trendy couple café, taking photos for social media.
Back then, his words had cut me like a knife.
But now? They didn’t hurt at all.
Oliver stared at me with a complicated, almost guilty look, “Sorry..…”
“Don’t be. It doesn’t matter anymore.”
I waved him off, “If that’s all, I’m going home.”
After days in the hospital, all I wanted was to sleep in my own bed.
But Oliver stepped in front of me, refusing to back down, “I’ll drive you home.”
“No, thanks. Don’t trouble yourself.”
I nodded the bouquet of bright roses in his hand, “Sofia’s waiting for you. You shouldn’t keep her upset.”
Those roses were her favorite.
With her constant threats to hurt herself, there was no question he’d been on his way to take care of her.
Something about my words set him off.
“Enough, Mia! Don’t be so ungrateful!”
“Fine! If that’s how you feel, I’ll go to take care of Sofia right now!”
With that, he spun around and stormed away.
I didn’t even glance at him. I turned, got into a taxi, and left.
I spent the next two days resting at home.
Then I called a lawyer and started preparing for divorce.
Meanwhile, Sofia’s Instagram was full of new posts.
Oliver was taking her everywhere — fancy dinners, trips, shopping sprees.
Every picture was a shot of them being close and affectionate. Lovey-dovey.
He was buying her designer bags, luxury watches, anything she wanted.
In a way, I was almost thankful.
I didn’t need a private investigator. She was handing me all the evidence I needed.
Every dollar he spent on her came from our marital property.
Half of it belonged to me.
And I intended to get every cent back.
Once I finished the divorce papers, I planned to sit down and talk to Oliver.
But surprisingly, he messaged me first.
“Let’s have dinner tonight.”
“Alright.”
I agreed. It would be the perfect time to finalize everything.
That night, I arrived at the restaurant and pushed open the door.
Immediately, I heard a group of people laughing and talking loudly.
“Oliver and Sofia were the golden couple in our high school! Man, those were the days.”
