Twenty-Four Hours Later, My Betraying Alpha Crumbles Chapter 07

Twenty-Four Hours Later, My Betraying Alpha Crumbles Chapter 07

Gavin stopped right in front of us.

He stood tall and broad, blocking most of the sunlight. His shadow engulfed me, casting a brooding gloom over his features. His Alpha pheromones spiked uncontrollably and rolled off his frame.

His gaze slid over Kaleib once before locking onto mine, heavy with unsparing scrutiny

“Savannah, what exactly are you doing today?”

His voice wasn’t exactly harsh, but the patronizing, presumptuous tone of interrogation made my

skin crawl. Like a professor interrogating a student who skipped class.

“The entire campus forum’s blowing up over you-everyone’s saying you’ve been avoiding me

nonstop all day long.”

He paused, jaw tightening-like admitting he’d been paying attention embarrassed him.

“Kids even set up little betting pools in the comment section, wagering how long you’d keep freezing me out.”

As he spoke, a barely hidden frustration flickered behind his eyes. His concern was never for my public humiliation. He only resented being dragged into the mockery, put on display for the whole school, stripped of his control. He hated that.

“If something’s been bugging you, you could’ve come straight to me instead of airing all our business for the whole campus to gossip about.”

“And you had no reason to latch onto some random guy just to get a rise out of me.’

His words were restrained, but that innate entitled mindset that I existed solely to revolve around

him-wasn’t hidden at all.

I frowned at this Alpha who had shown up out of nowhere and started dumping all these accusations

on me.

“Excuse me, I believe you’ve mistaken me for someone else.”

I stood up and instinctively moved closer to Kaleib.

“I really don’t know what you’re talking about.”

Gavin’s breath caught.

He watched me shrink away from him, watched the wariness and confusion in my eyes-

completely unguarded, completely genuine. You can fake not loving someone. But you can’t fake this kind of complete, utter estrangement.

My Omega scent gave him nothing. No longing. No fear. Nothing.

“You don’t know me?” He stepped closer, his voice tight. “I’m Gavin Reed.”

“You used to trail after me everywhere growing up-once you stood out pouring rain for two whole

hours just to hand me an umbrella.”

“You threw yourself in front of a car to shield me, shattered your leg, and lost every shot at

competitive running forever.”

His voice rose without him meaning to. When he said “broke your leg,” the corner of his eye

twitched.

I looked down at the long, bumpy scar on my right knee.

So this scar was because of him.

“And what of it?” My voice was calm, like I was asking about something that didn’t concern me.

“If I got hurt because of you, then why are you blocking my way and yelling at me?” I paused, holding his gaze. “Is this long-overdue guilt, or are you simply parading my trauma to feed your pathetic ego?”

Gavin looked like he’d been slapped.

He stood there frozen.

“I…” His mouth opened. His throat moved. But no words came out.

Kaleib stood up smoothly. He was half a head taller than Gavin, built solid from years of training.

Another Alpha.

“If you have no legitimate reason to linger, kindly leave my patient in peace.” Kaleib’s tone was

polite, but his stance was firm. He stepped sideways, putting himself between Gavin and me.

“Savannah, come on-let’s head over to the training equipment bay to run through your exercises.” His voice softened when he turned to me.

“Okay.”

i didn’t give Gavin another look. I turned and walked away with Kaleib.

Gavin stood there, watching my back. Watching Kaleib’s hand hover near my arm, steadying me without even thinking about it.

He had never held me like that. He had never noticed that I needed it.

A sharp, crushing weight slammed straight into his chest.

He had seen those forum posts. Some people said Savannah had finally come to her senses. Others

said even the most persistent Omega gets tired eventually.

Reading through them, he didn’t feel sorry for her. He just felt uneasy. She wasn’t coming to him

anymore, and that made him feel like he was losing control of something.

He came, but not because he cared. He came because he wasn’t used to it.

But now, watching her walk away without looking back even once, he realized that underneath that

unease was a truth he had been too afraid to admit.

She didn’t look back even once.
