Twelve-Year-Love With An Alpha, He Betrayed Me And Marked An Omega Chapter 05

Nellie’s POV

Crying, I reached for the emergency call button, but Irinda and Madeline joined forces to block me.

Beneath Madeline’s fragile appearance was pure cruelty.

“Mrs. Vesper just claimed that anyone who interferes with a mate bond will be cursed by The Moon Goddess. Today, she can experience that curse herself. Otherwise, you’ll keep clinging to Carrion like you still have a chance.”

“It’s better if she dies. Why should Carrion’s pack resources go to a filthy mother and daughter like you?”

I turned and begged Irinda desperately to save my mother, but all I heard was her contemptuous scoff.

“I’m not friends with the Alpha’s mistress. Luna Madeline is my best friend.”

“Ever since we were little, you were better than me at everything—your looks, your grades, even the status of your mate. I hated that fake innocent act of yours more than anything. Everything that’s happening today is exactly what you deserve.”

I staggered back a step as my ears rang.

So all the care I had given her had been charity in her eyes.

So while I thought we were friends, she had seen us as enemies.

They pinned me firmly to the floor, and I could only watch as my mother convulsed violently on the hospital bed.

On the heart monitor, her ECG line jumped wildly before slowly flattening into a single straight line.

My mother was gone.

Like a madwoman, I broke free from the two of them, grabbed the knife my mother usually used to peel apples for me, and lunged at them.

I wanted them to pay with their lives for my mother’s death.

“Nellie Vesper, are you insane?”

Carrion pushed the door open and happened to see me lose control.

With a furious roar, he rushed toward me and shielded Madeline with his body.

Just before the tip of the knife could plunge into Carrion’s chest, I twisted my wrist sharply.

The knife drove straight into my own chest, and bright-red blood sprayed across Carrion’s face.

Carrion clutched me tightly in agony and screamed as if his heart had been torn apart.

“Nellie!”

When I woke up, my chest hurt so badly that even the slightest movement felt as if it would split me open.

I forced myself to sit up, but Carrion, who had been guarding my bedside, hurried to support me.

“Nellie, don’t move. Your wound hasn’t even scabbed over yet. It’ll hurt.”

He considerately adjusted the hospital bed to a comfortable angle. As he settled me in, he called the Pack Elders.

“Nellie is injured. I won’t feel at ease unless I take care of her myself.”

“Please handle pack business for the next few days. I’ll have to trouble the Pack Elders and the Beta to keep an eye on things.”

His voice only grated on me. All I wanted was to know what had happened to my mother.

Had they managed to save her?

Enduring the sharp pain in my chest, I struggled to get up.

My mother’s attending Pack Healer suddenly stormed into the room.

“How many times have I told you that Mrs. Vesper’s condition is severe? Her life could be in danger at any moment, and someone must stay with her.”

“How could you leave her alone in her room? I’m sorry, but she has completely lost all vital signs. She has passed away.”

Carrion stared blankly at the Pack Healer, unable to believe what he had heard.

At the time, everything had happened so fast that he had focused only on saving me.

Because of that one moment of negligence, my mother had died so suddenly.

Carrion held my trembling body tightly and kept patting my back to comfort me.

“Nellie, don’t blame yourself. It was an accident.”

“If you want to cry, just hold on to me and cry.”

Even now, Carrion still thought my mother’s death had only been an accident caused by being left unattended.

My fury exploded. With all my strength, I slapped Carrion across the face.

The wound in my chest tore open, and the pain made my vision go black. I nearly lost consciousness again.
