Too Late to be My Dads Chapter 06

Too Late to be My Dads Chapter 06

Through the black hole, I stepped into a warm and cozy home.

A floral scent filled the air.

I tried to summon the System, but was met with silence.

Just as I was about to look around, the bedroom door swung open, and out walked a beautiful woman.

The woman was taken aback to see me.

I recognized who she was right away.

It was my mother, Kylee.

Kylee looked just as pretty in the photos.

While I was at a loss for what to do, Kylee broke down in tears. She bolted over and flung her arms around me. “Niamh? Is that really you, my Niamh?”

Tears rolled down my cheeks.

That very day, Kylee filled me in on what happened then.

Her side of the story matched the System’s version of events. Kylee took on the task to help her gravely ill mother and returned to her world to be by her side again.

Kylee had been waiting for me.

“I kept thinking that even if you never came back to me, I should always keep a room ready for you.”

Feeling a lump in my throat, I asked about my grandmother.

“She lives in a small town. I’ll take you to visit her soon.”

Cynthia was on the mend. After beating the illness, she went back to her quiet town, while Kylee stayed behind to build a life for herself in the city.

Upon learning that I dropped out of education at the age of sixteen, Kylee pulled some strings and managed to enroll me in a regular high school.

Even across two different worlds, the high school curriculum was practically the same.

Every day, I went to school and came home to a home–cooked dinner waiting for me. Kylee always found new ways to start a conversation and connect with me

Our bond grew stronger bit by bit, slowly bridging the more–than–a–decade–long distance between us

Just when I thought days like these would go on forever, the System showed up at our front door in human form once more

That was when I learned the System was a living person in this reality.

He was an employee at a metaverse tech firm. Meanwhile, Ethan, Lee, Ryker, and Tony were characters

in a book.

According to the System, the world that housed Ethan, Lee, Ryker, and Tony was threatening to fall into

ruin. He asked if I was open to going back and meeting them.

I uttered in shock, “Me?”

The System nodded.

He told me that my four fathers lost it once the truth from three years ago was revealed.

The first thing they did was hold Sadie and the punk captive.

They made certain that Sadie would go through the same ordeal as I.

The only difference was that it wouldn’t be a clean, swift death.

“As soon as Sadie shows any signs of dying, Lee will keep her alive with the best care. Before she could

even regain her strength, she was brought back to hell.”

The System’s voice was flat, but I caught the underlying smugness in his tone.

It wasn’t until I lived through the ordeal to know what Ethan, Lee, Ryker, and Tony were capable of.

Dying wasn’t the scary part.

The real horror was wishing for death as an escape, only to find even that out of reach.

Following Sadie’s demise, the quartet started challenging the authority of that world by turning the reality upside down.

Their unusual behavior eventually startled the Core System, which in turn flagged the System.

The System had to appear before the four men.

Ethan, Lee, Ryker, and Tony demanded to see me. If I didn’t show up, the world would fall apart.

Here I thought the System would persuade me to hear them out.

To my surprise, the System said, “Just be honest with yourself, Niamh. That world can collapse for all I care. The morons are getting what they deserve.”

I wasn’t expecting that from him. Still, I told him that I would meet with the four men. Kylee should be left out of the matter, though.

It hadn’t been long since I had returned to Kylee’s arms She might just get the wrong idea if she were to learn about my visit back

The door burst open.

Kylee was choked up with tears. “Niamh, I’m going with you. I didn’t trust those men with you just for them to abuse you over another child!”

The secret I had been keeping from Kylee was out anyway.

Nevertheless, Kylee confessed that she had long suspected the miserable life I had been living there

before we left for the other world.

It hadn’t gone unnoticed when I curled up in a ball at night, talking in my sleep, “Please, Dads. I’m sorry. I

won’t do it again.”

So as not to trigger any painful memories in me, Kylee chose not to bring the whole thing up.

Thanks to the System’s setup, we soon met Ethan, Lee, Ryker, and Tony.

I hadn’t even opened the door to the mansion when the stench of tobacco and alcohol hit me.

Slumped against the sofa, Ethan, Lee, Ryker, and Tony looked utterly devastated.

The moment the door clicked open, the quartet turned to the doorway all at once.

“Niamh.” They said together.

The group rose to their feet and sprinted toward me.

Before they could reach for me, another silhouette stepped in front of me.

Once they got a good look at the person, their faces beamed.

“You’re back as well, Kylee!”
