Thrown to the Dogs: The Fallen Star’s Bloody Revenge Chapter 05 She Thought She’d Killed Me

Vivienne’s heart lurched. She tore her hand from Nolan’s and rushed back upstairs.

Doctors and nurses were already crowded around the window. My son stood among them, tears streaming down his face.

Vivienne’s knees nearly gave out. She forced herself forward and looked through the window. Beyond it was nothing but open ocean stretching to the horizon. I was nowhere in sight.

“You’re lying to me, aren’t you? Julian wouldn’t jump. His face may be ruined, but he still has me and our son. Why would he kill himself when he still has us? You must be helping him fool me.”

A nurse beside her had gone pale. Her voice shook when she spoke.

“Mrs. Mercer, I saw Mr. Mercer jump with my own eyes. I tried to stop him, but I couldn’t get there in time. It happened too fast. He must have already made up his mind to die.”

Vivienne could barely stay on her feet after hearing that. With trembling hands, she pulled out her phone and called the police.

“My husband jumped into the ocean. Please, you have to find him. I can’t lose him.”

Then she messaged her assistant and ordered a search–and–rescue team to be sent out immediately.

At last, her legs gave way. She dropped to her knees and broke down sobbing.

She had never truly believed I might kill myself. I’d always been cheerful, always looking on the bright side. She’d assumed I would be miserable for a while and eventually bounce back. It had never occurred to her that…

My son suddenly grabbed her by the collar.

“This is all your fault! If you hadn’t pushed Dad this far, he never would’ve jumped! Give me my dad back!”

Nolan came running upstairs just then, breathing hard.

The moment he saw my son grabbing Vivienne, he rushed over, shoved him away, and frowned at him.

“That’s enough. Vivienne is your mother. How can you treat her like this?”

Whenever Nolan had lectured my son like this before, my son had always listened without

question.

This time, he glared at Nolan and shouted.

“Who the hell do you think you are? What gives you the right to lecture me? My dad jumped into the ocean because of you, you bastard!”

Nolan froze. A second later, his eyes reddened, and he turned to Vivienne with an injured look.

“Vivienne, look at the way your son is treating me. So Julian jumped into the ocean. Do you really need to make such a huge deal out of it?

“Julian’s just using suicide to manipulate you. If you panic like this, you’re giving him exactly what he wants. I bet he’s faking the whole thing. He’s pulling this stunt just to make you feel sorry for him.”

The words had barely left his mouth when Vivienne shot to her feet and slapped him across the face.

“How can you say something like that? How can you be so cruel? Look at what Julian has already been through, and you’re still saying he’s faking it? Fine. Why don’t you jump and fake it for

me?”

My son screamed at him too.

“Shut up! This is all because of you! You ruined my family! If my dad dies, I swear I’ll make you pay!”

Their reaction left Nolan speechless. He covered his stinging cheek while tears spilled down his face.

My son only gave him an irritated glance. After saying a few words to the doctors, he hurried downstairs. A trace of pain passed through Vivienne’s eyes.

“Nolan, stop making this about you. We’ll talk after we find Julian. You know how weak he is right now. We have to get him out of the water as soon as possible. He can’t survive out there for long.”

Nolan clenched his jaw, furious.

Before this, Vivienne and my son had always taken his side, no matter what he said.

Now they were dismissing him as selfish. Vivienne had even slapped him because of me. Just thinking about it made his cheek throb all over again.

Vivienne left as soon as she finished speaking. By then, the police and the search–and–rescue team had arrived.

She rushed over and tried to follow the rescuers into the water, but Nolan ran after her and held her back with all his strength.

“Vivienne, you’re pregnant! You can’t go in there! You can’t risk our baby for Julian!”

Vivienne hesitated for a moment. Then she looked toward the water, where my son and a large group of rescuers were already heading out to search. Whatever caution she’d had disappeared.

“Our baby matters, but Julian’s life matters more. If I lose Julian, what good would it do me to have any number of children?”

In the end, Vivienne ignored everyone trying to stop her and plunged into the water. They searched for an entire day and night, yet there was still no trace of me.

My son was completely exhausted, but his sobs only grew more desperate.

“Dad, where are you? Please, just come back! If you come back, I’ll find the best reconstructive surgeon in the country. I’ll get your face fixed. I promise I’ll make you look exactly like you used to!”

Vivienne’s head was spinning from the lack of oxygen.

Yet all she could see were memories of the man I used to be.

We had been together since college. We’d come so far together, promised each other forever, and stood before everyone at our wedding believing we were stepping into a lifetime of happiness.

Once, we had loved each other that much. Now the man who had loved her more than anyone was gone, driven to his death by her own hands.

The thought filled Vivienne with crushing regret. She raised a hand and slapped herself across the face again and again.

From the helicopter, I watched it all unfold below and nearly laughed at the bitter irony of it

all.
