They Tried To Punish My Daughter, Unaware We Were Vampires Chapter 09

Ivy had regained her strength.

She hadn’t consumed the concentrated synthetic blood, but the pureblood aura I released had awakened the dormant power in her veins.

She was no longer the frail girl sunlight could kill.

Her nails had grown long and sharp, gleaming like polished metal.

Kayla dragged her broken leg toward the stairs, hoping to escape while everyone was distracted. She had almost reached the stairs when Ivy planted a foot on her back.

Kayla screamed and begged for mercy.

“Ivy, please! I was wrong. Let me go!”

Ivy studied her with her head slightly tilted.

“Let you go? You weren’t interested in mercy when you wanted me begging you for forgiveness.”

She didn’t drink Kayla’s blood. Just as she had said, it smelled too foul to touch.

Instead, Ivy took a small glass vial of green liquid from her pocket. It held a venom our family used to punish traitors.

“Drink this.”

She gripped Kayla’s jaw and forced the liquid down her throat.

Kayla broke into a violent coughing fit. Within seconds, the venom took effect, making every organ feel as though it were on fire.

She rolled across the floor, screaming and clawing at her face until her skin split beneath her nails.

“Kill me,” she begged. “Please, just kill me!”

Summoning the last of her strength, she dragged herself to my feet and clung to my leg.

“Mrs. Vesper, please! I was wrong. Have mercy on me just this once and give me the antidote. I swear I’ll stay away from House Vesper and never set foot in Greyhaven again!”

I looked down at her face, slick with tears and snot, and kicked her away.

She crawled back, but Ivy pinned her hand beneath her shoe. Ivy tilted her head with a sweet,

innocent smile.

“An antidote? Of course we have one.”

“But it’s meant for people worth saving. What makes you think you deserve it?”

Ivy gave a cold laugh.

“You think dying will save you? It won’t. The venom will make you feel as if you’re burning alive every day, but it will also keep your body from shutting down.”

“You’ll live longer than everyone you know, and you’ll spend every moment of that life in pain.”

Silas and Rowan had nearly killed each other by then.

I bit each of them on the neck. I didn’t feed. Instead, I injected my venom into their veins.

They wouldn’t become true vampires. They would be reduced to blood thralls, the lowest creatures

in our world.

Blood thralls had no self–awareness or rational thought. They were beasts ruled entirely by

instinct.

Silas and Rowan would spend the rest of their existence in the basement, feeding on rats and insects in the dark. A single touch of sunlight would burn them to ash.

I looked at the three twisted figures crawling across the floor and brushed off my hands.

I was about to seal the basement permanently when Ivy began to laugh.

Her childish laughter echoed through the empty basement, eerily out of place.
