They Tried To Punish My Daughter, Unaware We Were Vampires Chapter 02

Silas raised the dagger, his eyes filled with rage.

“Drop the knife, Silas.”

I didn’t blink.

Rowan released Ivy’s wrist and hurried over to back Silas up.

“Have you lost your mind, Mom? You hit Silas over Ivy after spoiling her rotten? We’ve risked our lives for this family for ten years. What has Ivy ever done besides hold us back?”

Without Rowan holding her steady, Ivy suddenly stumbled.

I caught Silas’s knife hand and forced him to drop the dagger. He cried out, and the dagger clattered to the roof.

I seized the opening, yanked Ivy back over the railing, and held her tightly against me.

Her body was burning hot, and her skin was flushed from the heat. The sunlight was already taking a toll on her. If she didn’t receive synthetic blood soon, her condition would become critical.

I carried her toward the stairwell.

“Stop, Mom!”

Silas rubbed his injured wrist and blocked my path, his teeth clenched with rage.

“You’re not leaving until Rosie gets an apology.”

Rosie gasped, covered her mouth, and backed away two steps.

“Mrs. Vesper, you’re frightening me… Silas, please don’t fight with her because of me. This is all my fault.”

She pressed herself against him, and Silas immediately wrapped a protective arm around her.

“If you walk away from this family, don’t ever call us your sons again.”

I stopped and looked back at him.

Ten years. I had poured ten years of effort into raising an idiot who lost his head over a manipulative girl.

“All right.”

My voice was cold and steady.

“From this moment on, neither of you is my son.”

I carried Ivy into the stairwell without looking back. The moment the shadows covered her, her breathing began to ease.

As soon as we reached the Vesper estate, I placed Ivy in a temperature-controlled pod disguised as a luxury massage table.

It held a specially formulated nutrient solution that kept vampires alive without human blood.

Color had just begun to return to Ivy’s face, and I finally breathed a little easier. Then someone kicked open the front door.

Silas and Rowan swaggered inside with Rosie trailing behind them, looking delicate and pitiful.

“What are you doing here?”

I stood at the top of the stairs and looked down at them.

“I bought this place,” Silas said with a cold smile. “Why shouldn’t I be here?”

Silas dropped onto the living room sofa. Rosie wandered around, surveying the decor as if she already owned the place.

“Wow, Silas, your house is huge and gorgeous.”

Her gaze landed on an antique blue-and-white porcelain vase in the corner.

“That antique vase must be worth a fortune.”

Greed gleamed in her eyes as she pointed to it.

It wasn’t a vase at all.

Inside was high-purity powdered plasma I had brought back from the Continental Territories, Ivy’s last line of defense.

Rowan made a grand gesture toward the room.

“If you like it, take it. Anything in this house is yours.”

I came down the stairs and stepped between Rosie and the vase.

“Get out.”

Silas rose and slapped a document onto the coffee table.

“Take a good look, old hag. See whose name is on the deed now.”

It was a deed transferring the house to Silas and Rowan, complete with my signature and thumbprint.

I narrowed my eyes.

When had I signed this?

Rowan smiled smugly.

“Last month, when you were drunk. We handed you a document and got you to sign it.”

“You’re getting old, Mom. It’s time you let Silas and me manage everything you’ve built over the past ten years.”

Rosie pointed toward the basement door.

“Mrs. Vesper, I thought I heard something behind that door. You’re not hiding anything down there, are you?”
