They Stole My Seven Years Chapter 04

They Stole My Seven Years Chapter 04

Adrian did not look up at me.

His lowered lashes were hidden beneath the messy hair falling over his forehead, and he looked quiet and broken.

My nose stung.

His concession felt like a little bit of light.

I pulled myself together.

“St. Augustine Preparatory Academy’s Alumni Weekend is coming up.”

“They used to invite alumni back every year. This year should be the same.”

“I want to go.”

I thought Adrian would definitely refuse.

Unexpectedly, after a moment of silence, he agreed.

I froze.

But clearly, the spectator feed was even more shocked than I was.

The few spectator feed comments that had been there suddenly flooded the moment Adrian nodded.

“What kind of magic does that cookie have?”

“This is wrong. This is so wrong.”

“I get it. The villain must be trying to trigger the Host like last time, then find an excuse to send her to a private psychiatric institute and scare her into breaking.”

A private psychiatric institute?

My nerves tightened instantly, and I swallowed nervously.

On Alumni Weekend, I had 2 dark circles under my eyes.

Adrian gave me a few dark looks.

I carefully sat a little farther away from him, afraid he would send me to a private psychiatric institute without warning.

For some reason, his expression only looked worse.

Even after we got out of the car, he still seemed distant.

I stared at the school before me, my eyes stinging.

7 years.

It had really been too long.

Even the gates of St. Augustine looked different from how I remembered them.

Everything had changed.

Adrian’s voice sounded low beside my ear.

“Go in.”

I nodded lightly and turned my face away, secretly wiping the tears from the corner of my eye.

I wasn’t sure if it was my imagination, but as we brushed past each other, Adrian’s breath by my ear seemed to tremble with restraint.

Alumni Weekend was still lively.

There were plenty of familiar faces inside.

But without exception, they all looked at me strangely.

Embarrassed, I hid a little behind Adrian.

I had almost forgotten.

In everyone else’s eyes, I was still that unstable woman.

I sighed in disappointment.

Suddenly, Adrian stepped aside and exposed me to view.

He said to me, “Selena, say hello to Ms. Carter.”

When he said my name, it was as if he still wasn’t used to it.

His voice was terribly hoarse.

I glanced at him.

His head was lowered, and I had no idea what he was thinking.

But soon, I had no room left to care about him.

My former teacher, Ms. Carter, smiled and opened her arms to me.

I let out a soft cry, rushed into her arms, and cried until my mind went blank.

Just like before, she gently stroked my hair.

“Come here, Selena.”

“Who made you this sad again?”

I sobbed so hard I couldn’t speak.

There was too much I wanted to say.

I wanted to say that I had been thrown 7 years into the future for no reason and now had to complete Adrian’s target mission.

I wanted to say that Adrian was a liar, because he had promised he would recognize me, but he still refused to believe I was Selena.

More than anything, I wanted to ask why my perfectly normal life had suddenly gone off the rails.

But every word was stuck in my throat.

It hurt, but I couldn’t say a thing.

In the end, I could only wipe away my tears and tell Ms. Carter I was fine.

A handkerchief was offered in front of me.

I looked at Adrian blankly.

He held the handkerchief, his face a little pale.

But those black eyes were fixed tightly on me.

My heart panicked, and I looked back at him.

“Adrian…”

He pushed the handkerchief into my hand.

He seemed to smile, but also seemed to have had no expression from beginning to end.

Finally, he turned and walked away quickly.

I clutched the handkerchief and watched his back.

Ms. Carter held my shoulders and said softly, “Did something happen between you and that boy?”

I shook my head without thinking.

Ms. Carter sighed.

“Last winter, Adrian climbed into the school in the middle of the night and spent the whole night alone in the academy courtyard garden.”

“If campus security hadn’t found him and sent him to the hospital, I don’t want to imagine what might have happened.”

The tears I had finally stopped surged up again.

“Ms. Carter, I’m going to check on him.”

After saying that, I lifted my skirt and ran in the direction he had gone.
