They Sold Me to Hell and Called It Love Chapter 06

My uncle still refused to accept it. He insisted the doctors run a full examination—he needed to know exactly how every wound on my body had gotten there.

This time, the hospital’s most senior physicians conducted the examination together.

Half an hour later, the lead surgeon emerged, his face grim, sweat beading on his forehead.

“Miss Cross suffered prolonged, inhumane abuse before her death. There isn’t a single patch of unbroken skin anywhere her clothes would have covered.”

The three men stood frozen, paralyzed by the words.

The doctor sighed, hesitating before continuing. “Our examination shows that Miss Cross experienced multiple forced miscarriages. Her uterus was severely damaged and infected. She has completely lost the ability to bear children.”

He paused, his voice tinged with disbelief. “She has severe old tearing injuries. Multiple healed fractures in her pelvis. The amputation of her legs was performed without sterile conditions or proper anesthesia. There were multiple post-operative infections. She nearly died from them.”

The moment the doctor finished, my uncle snatched the report from his hands. He read every word—and then his legs gave out. He crumpled to the floor.

His eyes went vacant. His hands shook so badly he could barely hold the pages. He opened his mouth, but no sound came out.

Darius stared at me on the operating table—my closed eyes, my bloodless face, my ruined legs, my gown soaked red. His chest felt like it was being crushed by invisible hands. Even breathing was agony.

He thought about how, after they brought me back, he had never once looked at me with kindness. How he had taken Lila’s side again and again. His heart felt like it was being sliced apart.

Kael had gone rigid the moment the doctor said “multiple forced miscarriages.” The words hit him like a thunderbolt.

“How is that possible? After she lost the baby back then, the doctors said she probably couldn’t get pregnant again…”

“If I had known she would suffer like this—I never would have sent her to Nueva Sangre for five years…”

He sank to his knees in front of my body, his face lost and bewildered, tears streaming down his face.

“Phina… I was wrong. I shouldn’t have sent you away just so Lila could have my baby. Please forgive me…”

He grabbed my cold hand and sobbed, pouring out his regrets.

Even though I was already dead, hearing those words sent a sharp pain through my chest.

So in his eyes, because I couldn’t give him a child, I had lost all my value. I deserved to be sent to Nueva Sangre and tortured.

When Jax Cole was brought in, Kael lunged at him like a feral animal.

His face was dark with fury as he kicked the trembling man three meters across the floor.

The crack of bones echoed through the hospital corridor. Jax rolled on the ground, shrieking in agony.

Kael’s eyes were blood-red. He looked like a vengeful demon as he stomped down on Jax’s hand and ground it under his heel.

“Talk. What did you do to my wife?”

“Her scars. Her legs. Her children. I want to know everything.”

Jax screamed even louder, shaking uncontrollably. He looked up at Kael with pure terror in his eyes and didn’t dare hold back a single word.

“I was just doing what I was paid for! I followed your orders!”

“You sent me the message, ordered me to teach her a lesson. Whatever it took, just make her learn to behave, leave her breathing!”

“And the woman with you said you didn’t want this woman anymore. She said even if you came to get her, you’d divorce her anyway. Told us we could have our fun with her!”

“The woman with me?” Kael pressed down harder, his voice a snarl.

Jax howled in pain. “The one who came with you all! The one you all call Lila!”

Kael went completely still.

Darius stepped forward, grabbed Jax by the collar, and hauled him up. “Say that again. Who was giving the orders behind the scenes?”

Jax had already wet himself in fear. His voice trembled so badly the words came out slurred. “It was her… that woman, Lila!”

“Without the money you all sent me, without her instructions, I wouldn’t have dared touch the niece of a crime lord and the wife of an arms dealer!”

My uncle stood there, stunned. When he finally processed what Jax had said, a wail tore from his throat, raw and crazed.

“It was me. I brought a viper into our house.”
