They Sold Me to Hell and Called It Love Chapter 05

They Sold Me to Hell and Called It Love Chapter 05

The three men who watched it happen went white as ash in an instant.

The next second, Kael Rourke’s eyes turned bloodshot. A desperate roar tore from his throat as he bolted toward the door like a madman.

“Seraphina!”

I hit the ground with a sickening crack. My prosthetics shattered on impact.

My body felt impossibly light. My soul slipped free from its shell and hovered in the air, waiting for the system to take me away.

Kael was the first one downstairs. He stared at the broken, bloodied mess of me on the ground—at the fragments of my prosthetics scattered around—and pure, unfiltered shock flooded his eyes.

“What… what is this?”

“Phina… your legs… where are your legs?”

His body went rigid. He stumbled forward, dropping to his knees, and gathered my already cold body into his arms. His voice shook uncontrollably.

“Seraphina, I’m talking to you. Answer me!”

He let out a guttural howl of despair, his eyes so red they looked like they might bleed.

“Stop playing games with me!”

“I just wanted you to apologize to Lila. Was that worth throwing your life away?”

He clutched me tighter, his face drained of all color, tears streaming down his cheeks.

My uncle and Darius came running after him, screaming my name.

“Phina, don’t do this to me—wake up!”

“Seraphina, you promised you’d be the head designer for my mafia family. You can’t just break your word!”

They gathered around me, shouting my name over and over like they could will me back to life.

Darius reached out with a trembling hand and checked for breath. Then his legs gave out and he collapsed to the ground, his eyes hollow.

“No… she was just fine… how can this be…”

My uncle snatched me out of Kael’s arms and screamed at the crowd around him. “What are you all standing there for? Get a doctor! Someone get a goddamn doctor!”

He was like a trapped beast, raging and wild. But the moment he lifted me, he went completely still.

“Why are you so light?”

I had already been nothing but skin and bones. With my prosthetics shattered, my body barely weighed anything.

His gaze traveled down. When he saw the stumps where my legs ended, terror and disbelief warred on his face.

“Doctor! Get a doctor now! I must be seeing things—my Seraphina is fine. She’s fine!”

I floated above them, watching the three men cry and hold each other, their faces twisted with remorse. Even then, my heart clenched with a familiar ache.

I had spent twenty years with them. And in those five dark years at Nueva Sangre, I had held on to the hope that they would find me, save me.

I endured the chains, the electric prods, the men. The forced egg harvesting. The pregnancies that ended before they even began—children I never got to meet, fathered by faceless strangers.

I survived all of it because I wanted to see them again.

But when I found out that they were the ones who had sent me to that hell… I lost every reason to keep living.

Even if I went back to my original world—back to being a lonely orphan with no one. I didn’t want anything to do with them anymore.

My uncle carried me into the emergency room.

He dropped to his knees, pressing his forehead to the floor, begging the doctors. “Please, save my niece. She’s still alive, you can save her!”

The doctors who rushed in took one look at my blood-soaked body and my missing legs. Pity flickered across their faces.

Still, they ran a full examination.

“The patient’s pupils are dilated. No heartbeat, no respiration. She’s gone. I’m so sorry.”

The lead doctor removed his stethoscope and gave them a solemn bow.

Kael stood frozen in place, muttering to himself like a ghost.
“Seraphina… we promised we’d be together forever…”

“I only sent you to Nueva Sangre for five years. How could you do something like this…”

My uncle’s hand trembled as it touched the scars on my arm. Just a gentle brush, and a wound that hadn’t yet healed split open.

His eyes went wide. He yanked up my sleeve—and saw the truth.

Scar upon scar, fresh wounds over old ones, layered so thick there wasn’t a single patch of unmarked skin on my body.

His hands shook violently. He could barely stand.

“This isn’t paint… this is real…”

Watching him, all I felt was bitter irony.

When they first brought me back, I had tried to show them. I pulled up my clothes, desperate to make them see what I had endured for five years.

But they said I was acting. That I had painted the wounds on to play the victim.

Darius’s eyes were already red-rimmed. He stared at my ruined legs, and something clicked in his mind. His jaw tightened as he spoke through gritted teeth.

“It was Jax Cole.”

Jax Cole—the trafficker who had sold me to the Nueva Sangre compound in the first place.

The look on Darius’s face was murderous, like a demon crawling up from the underworld, ready to tear someone apart.

“Find him. Bring him to me. I want to know exactly what Seraphina suffered these past five years.”

I watched the three of them weep and mourn and promise vengeance, and I felt nothing.

If they had believed me, I wouldn’t have suffered so much.

If they hadn’t been the ones who sent me away, I wouldn’t have died like this.
