They Regretted It After I Gave Up Chapter 09

I floated in the air, watching it all unfold below.

I didn’t cry. I wasn’t angry.

I just felt cold.

Mom held my body, sobbing so hard she could barely breathe.

Dad finally made a sound—a choked, guttural sob that sounded nothing like him.

Beckett knelt on the floor, his whole body trembling.

“Kat… let me explain…”

“I didn’t mean to hurt you, not really…”

“I just wanted Tessa to get through her interview without any pressure…”

“I never thought you would do this…”

His words trailed off into broken, uncontrollable sobs.

The police arrived.

They placed my body in a black bag, zipped it shut, and wheeled me away.

Mom threw herself forward, trying to stop them.

“Don’t touch my daughter! She isn’t dead! She’s just asleep!”

The nurses and police officers pulled her away as she kept struggling, her hands reaching for the gurney.

“Katerina—Mom is so sorry—I should have told you sooner—”

Dad held her from behind.

The two of them collapsed into each other’s arms, weeping in the middle of the hallway.
