They Forged My DNA Test–Fine, I’m No Longer Your Daughter Chapter 05

Caelan and Stellan both went white.

All color drained from Caelan’s face as he stumbled back.

The pendant Seraphine had given him struck the doorframe and shattered, but he didn’t even

notice.

“She’s dead? What happened? How is that possible?

“Did a rival pack come after her while we were away?”

The words “death certificate” shattered what remained of Caelan’s composure.

Horrific possibilities crowded his mind.

Stellan fought to remain calm, but his knuckles whitened around his phone.

“Keep looking. I don’t believe it.”

Then he seized Caelan by the shoulder.

“Calm down. This is another one of her stunts. She’s upset we keep choosing Seraphine, so

she’s throwing a tantrum.”

Caelan shook his head.

“No. She’d never get a death certificate just to make a point. It would mean surrendering her

entire legal identity.

“By filing one, she’s giving up the name Elowen Valen for good…”

His breath caught, and his voice trembled.

“It means… she’s given up on us.”

They could think of only two possibilities.

Either I was dead.

Or I’d left for good and wanted nothing more to do with any of them.

The room fell silent.

Stellan’s phone slipped from his hand and struck the floor.

They had watched me grow up. They knew I never acted on impulse.

Once I made up my mind, nothing could change it.

They remembered how quiet and compliant I’d been for months.

At last, they understood. I hadn’t yielded because I still loved them.

I had been pulling away, preparing to leave.

None of them knew what to make of the turmoil inside them.

Seraphine called to them from behind, but neither man answered for a long time.

For the first time, they ignored her.

Seraphine lowered her head and forced a sob into her voice.

“Elowen, it’s okay if you don’t want to be my maid of honor. Just please don’t ruin my mating

ceremony.

“I had no idea Caelan still couldn’t let you go…

Caelan and Stellan said nothing.

Watching Seraphine perform for an empty room made their skin crawl.

The silence finally told Seraphine something was wrong.

She looked up, saw the bare room, and dropped the act.

Her jaw tightened, and she muttered a curse.

“How dare she…

“How dare she leave like this?”

She had wanted Elowen trapped in Moonvale Pack forever.

Forced to watch while Seraphine had everything.

Forced to remember she was only an adopted replacement.

But Elowen’s disappearance had robbed Seraphine of the chance to keep controlling her.

Furious, she turned on the two men.

“Why didn’t you tell me sooner?

“You just let me stand here and make a fool of myself?”

Both men frowned, but years of indulging Seraphine had made appeasing her second nature.

Stellan swallowed his own feelings and told her what had happened.

When she heard Elowen had abandoned the Valen name, Seraphine could barely suppress a

smile.

Too delighted by the thought that she’d driven Elowen away, she failed to notice the two

men’s expressions hardening.

The same unspoken question passed between them.

If Seraphine was truly as kind and fragile as she pretended, shouldn’t she have been worried about Elowen and begging them to find her?

An answer they’d never dared face began to take shape.

Maybe Elowen wasn’t the one they’d never truly known.
