At last, we made it home.

I hadn’t even switched on the lights yet.

Julian pressed against me from behind.

He lifted my legs with practiced ease.

He wrapped them around his waist.

One hand held the back of my head as he bent to kiss me. The other unbuttoned his shirt.

His familiar scent swept over me.

It felt so good that my mind went blank.

Still, I struggled to find a trace of clarity through the desire and opened my eyes to look at him.

“Jul… Julian, do you know who I am?”

He watched me with dark, intent eyes.

A soft kiss landed at the corner of my mouth.

“Lily Bennett.”

“Lil.”

“My wife…”

I let out a long sigh.

Then I closed my eyes again.

We let ourselves go all night.

I opened my eyes the next morning.

My lower back felt as if it might snap.

I rolled over.

I found myself in Julian’s arins.

-My head rested on his arm.

He met my gaze.

The tips of his ears instantly turned red.

He looked away in a flash, then seemed to remember something and forced his gaze back to

mine.

He kept his face stiff and his voice cold.

“Miss Bennett, I think you owe me an explanation. Aren’t we getting divorced?”

I had no words.

Of course the poser would pull this.

I took my time stretching.

Then I reached for my phone.

I found last night’s recording.

I pressed play.

A second later, Julian’s whining voice, begging me to keep playing with him, filled the quiet

bedroom.

Julian fell silent.

His handsome face turned red right before my eyes.

His lips moved, but nothing came out for a long time.

Finally, he got the words out.

“I… I just had too much to drink…”

I held back a laugh.

I nodded, putting on a serious face.

“I agree. You were drunk and making a scene.”

“Don’t worry. The divorce will go ahead. I won’t cling to you.”

“Okay, I’m getting up. I’m meeting Luke for a meal later.”

I was still speaking.

I made a show of getting out of bed.

Julian’s eyes darkened.

He suddenly seized my wrist.

I gave an exaggerated hiss of pain.

Julian let go immediately.

Looking annoyed with himself, he lifted my wrist and examined it carefully.

I looked up at him, fighting a smile.

“Julian, why do you always say the opposite of what you mean?”

He pressed his lips together.

He looked up at me, something unspoken in his eyes.

I smiled back at him.

Somehow, that set him off again.

His brows drew together.

He pressed me down and kissed me without another thought.

Delighted, I tilted my head back and let him.

At last, he had his fill of kissing me.

His lips moved to the corner of my mouth, brushing softly against it.

His voice was hoarse.

“Lil.”

“Hmm?”

“Can I call you that?”

I frowned. “I’d rather you didn’t. It’s childish, isn’t it? Julian, can’t you be a little more mature?”

Julian choked on his reply.

For once, he looked away guiltily.

But I wasn’t letting him off the hook.

I cupped his face.

“Julian, have you really made up your mind?”

He frowned in confusion.

I went on.

“Are you really sure you don’t want that divorce decree you’ve been waiting for so long?”

Julian said nothing.

“Be careful, Julian. I play dirty.”

Still nothing.

I still wanted to go on.

Julian suddenly covered my mouth with his hand.

“I’m sorry, Lil. I love you.”

“I’m sorry. I was too embarrassed to admit how I felt about you, and I said so many things that hurt you.”

“I’m sorry, Lil. It was all my fault. Will you give me a chance to make it up to you?”

I was quiet for a long time.

Then I wrapped my arms around his neck.

“Julian, I did things wrong, too.”

“Afterward, I kept thinking how much better it would’ve been if we hadn’t started out so

badly.”

“I liked you. I should’ve found an honest, decent way to be with you, instead of doing what I

did.”

Julian held me tight.

“That’s behind us now.”
