The System Admitted Its Mistake—So I Offered Him a Divorce Chapter 10

-I didn’t get to finish.

Julian strode over and grabbed my wrist, pulling so hard I nearly fell.

He gave me no say in it, dragging me into the fire stairwell.

The door slammed behind us, shutting out every sound from outside. Only one emergency

light lit the stairwell.

He backed me against the wall.

The smell of alcohol mixed with his usual fir scent and enveloped me.

“Lily Bennett.”

He lowered his head, his eyes red from drinking.

His stare was vicious, as though he hated me.

“You used me until I was wrecked, then tossed me aside. Felt good, didn’t it?”

I froze, staring at his closed lips, still trying to process what he said.

His body was taut. Strands of hair fell over his forehead, obscuring his usually cold eyes.

“Lily, am I really that worthless to you?”!

“It’s my fault. My fault for sinking so low, for having no shame. I let you use me until I had no dignity left, and I still can’t forget you.”

The stairwell was terrifyingly quiet except for his harsh breathing.

My whole body stiffened. After a long silence, I raised a hand and gently stroked his face, trying to soothe him.

“Julian, are… are you drunk?”

He shivered.

He let his eyes close, feeling the warmth of my fingertips.

His voice was low, as though he was giving in.

“Lil, I don’t want a divorce. I don’t want to divorce you.”

“Keep playing with me, okay? Keep playing with me. I’m still fun, aren’t I? I used to be your

favorite…”

Julian was incredibly difficult when he was drunk.

It took coaxing and a few little lies to get him into the car.

I was breathless from the effort.

I had barely sat down beside him.

He wound himself around me like a vine.

I was fed up.

I slapped his arm.

“Let go.”

He made a couple of protesting noises.

But he didn’t move.

If I’d known he’d be like this, I would’ve given him a couple bottles of booze back when I

forced him to be with me.

I let out a long breath.

Then I cupped his face.

“Julian, let go of me for a minute. We’re going home. You need to sleep.”

His long lashes trembled.

He looked at me with hazy eyes.

“Don’t want to sleep.”

I frowned.

“Then what do you want?”

Julian leaned in to kiss my earlobe, all clingy affection.

“I want to do it with you…”

My eyes flew wide.

I clapped a hand over his mouth.

“The driver’s right there! ‘Stop saying that!”

He couldn’t reach my earlobe anymore.

Julian sat up indignantly.

His soft lips kept kissing my palm, on and off.

“Why don’t you want to do it with me? Why? What’s wrong?”

“It’s been a month. Are you disgusted with me? Are you sick of me?”

How could he say that stuff out loud?

I was losing my mind.

I held him by the shoulders.

“Julian, behave. We can talk when we get home, okay?”

He blinked at me blankly.

I couldn’t tell if he understood.

But he stopped moving.

I wiped the sweat from my forehead.

I never imagined I’d be the one telling Julian to behave.

Then something tickled my waist.

I looked down.

I hadn’t figured out what was happening yet.

A hot kiss landed on my bare back.

I gritted my teeth and gripped his neck.

“Julian Hayes! Stop undoing my dress!”
