“Chloe, don’t take it too far!”

He stood in front of Olivia, glaring at me.

“Olivia is just too trusting, and someone took advantage of her. You get one scholarship and suddenly you think you’re better than everyone?”

I couldn’t be bothered to waste my breath on him.

“Forget it,” I said, giving him a cool look. “You should be thinking about how to write that apology letter.”

Julian’s face went crimson.

He opened his mouth but couldn’t get a word out.

“You—”

“Enough!” my father cut him off.

For the Davis family, a scholarship of this caliber was something they could boast about for years.

My father decided on the spot to throw me a celebration dinner, one that would surpass any party Olivia had ever had.

He asked me what I wanted as a reward.

“Can I ask for something practical?” I said.

My father paused for a moment, then nodded readily.

“Of course.”

“I want to assume early control over the portion of the trust that, according to the agreement, I was only supposed to receive upon coming of age.”

The living room went silent.

That was equivalent to wresting a significant piece of control directly from their hands.

My father looked at me for several long seconds.

Then, to everyone’s surprise, he smiled.

“Fine,” he said. He turned to the family lawyer standing nearby. “Handle it. Amend the documents as Chloe has requested.”

When Olivia found out, her face was a mask of fury.

This meant it would be nearly impossible for her to challenge me for control of the trust in the future.

For the next few days, she didn’t even try to hide the hatred in her eyes when she looked at me.

I also caught her several times making hushed phone calls in her room.

When she saw me, she didn’t bother pretending. She just hung up and smiled.

A very cold smile.

I smiled back.

It seemed she was preparing a special gift for me at the dinner.

And sure enough, on the night of the celebration, Olivia made her move.
