I returned home, where Theo’s father, Nathan, was waiting for 

me. 

A full home–cooked meal he had prepared was already set on the dining table. 

I had agreed to move in with him ever since that meal together. 

We dated briefly twenty years ago. 

The day I found out I was pregnant, he promised to take full responsibility, yet I left without a word. 

Later on, he tracked down my contact information and sent 

me messages regularly for twenty whole years without pause. 

I once thought he was just stuck in lingering emotions, but he 

persisted patiently for two decades straight. 

I occasionally met up with him, and he always greeted me with 

sincere warmth. 

I had treated our youthful romance lightly, only to meet 

someone who took love utterly seriously. 

Leaning against the kitchen door watching his busy silhouette, guilt washed over me. 

I had been betrayed countless times and lost all faith in love back then, yet it was precisely then that I met a man who 

believed wholeheartedly in true love. 

Julian stayed single for twenty years pining after my sister, I 

devoted twenty years solely to my career, while Nathan spent twenty long years quietly waiting just for me. 

He held far more power and influence than Theo and Ethan combined, yet he remained faithful all these years. I could barely believe such a devoted man truly existed in this world. 

Lost in thought, I crossed my arms and stared at him. 

“Daydreaming again?” He carried out the last dish. 

“I just think you’re truly extraordinary.” 

He raised an eyebrow with a grin. “You just haven’t seen enough of the world.” 

“Perhaps you’re right.” 

“Have you decided who will inherit our combined family enterprises?” He pulled out a chair for me. 

I sat down gently. “Our younger daughter is perfect for the role. Young as she is, she has already handled countless major affairs independently. She will surpass both of us someday.” 

“I couldn’t agree more.” 

News spread fast once our two powerful families announced our marriage alliance and named our younger daughter the 

official heir. 

Early the next morning, someone banged frantically on my 

front door. 

Theo leaned breathlessly against the doorframe, his eyes red and swollen. “Mom, what is this supposed to mean? When did 

you have a second daughter? She’s only two years younger than me!” 

“Is there anything strange about that?” Nathan walked out from the study, looking down calmly at his eldest son. “Your mother and I have more than just you as our child.” 

“What…” Theo stared at Nathan in shock, then turned to me 

in disbelief. “Mom, were you truly serious about signing that severance agreement?” 

It was only then that I fully understood his former 

stubbornness. 

He had always taken it for granted that I had no other heirs besides him, so I would inevitably reconcile with him sooner 

or later. 

Now not only did I refuse to reconcile, I had even chosen another child as my successor instead. 

He gritted his teeth tightly. “Mom… I only acted recklessly on impulse back then.” 

“There is no such thing as reckless impulse when it comes to family legacy and decisions.” I spoke coldly. “I taught you from childhood to think twice before taking any action.” 

Tears flooded his eyes instantly. Nathan stepped forward and 

closed the door. 

Theo tried desperately to stop him, nearly getting his hand caught in the door frame. 

Theo immediately called off his engagement. The marriage he had fought against all odds to secure was now abandoned just 

as hastily. 

Word of this scandal spread rapidly throughout high society. 

All social resources and connections that had leaned toward Vivian because of their engagement vanished overnight without a trace. 

Before long, a married couple arrived at my company office. 

Ethan supported a tear–stricken Vera as they walked in. 

Vera gritted her teeth the moment she saw me, then dropped to her knees heavily. “Cleo, I’m the one at fault. Punish me however you wish. I beg you, stop targeting my daughter! She 

was raised sheltered and spoiled all her life; she cannot bear your retaliation!” 

I replied coldly. “I have already severed all ties with Theo. Go 

resolve your family matters with him instead.” 

She burst into louder sobs. “Everyone knows Theo is only distancing himself from my daughter in hopes of winning your forgiveness!” 

I frowned deeply. 

Vera crawled forward on her knees pleadingly. “Cleo, I beg you! Only you can stop your own son! You hate me so deeply, don’t you? I’ll even kowtow to you if that’s what it takes!” 

“Vera!”
