The Petty Secretary Vs The Literal Sister Chapter 07

The Petty Secretary Vs The Literal Sister Chapter 07

After Sloane was taken in, the trouble came at Thorne Digital Solutions in waves.

Investors pulled out. Clients demanded answers about data security.

The companies whose bids had been exposed came knocking too.

Gavin was drowning. And somehow, even with his company on fire, he still found time to send

Maren flowers every single day.

She didn’t accept a single bouquet.

I had the security guard place all of them beside the community recycling bins.

On the third day, Gavin showed up in person. He stood downstairs in the rain.

If you didn’t know any better, you’d think he was the male lead in some melodrama.

I grabbed an umbrella and went down.

The second he saw me, his expression turned cold

“I’m here to see Maren.”

“She’s asleep.” I said casually.

He stared at me. “At eight–thirty?”

“Yep. Beauty sleep.”

He took a slow breath. “Drew, can you just stay out of things between me and Maren?”

“I admit I didn’t handle boundaries well. But I never betrayed her. Sloane was just my employee.”

I looked at him. “You sure about that?”

His face tightened.

I pulled out my tablet and opened a video.

In it, Sloane was asleep in the passenger seat, leaning against Gavin’s shoulder.

He draped his jacket over her and pressed a gentle kiss to her forehead.

The timestamp was from three months earlier.

The color drained from his face.

I opened another clip. A hotel hallway.

Sloane was drunk, draped all over him, as he helped her into a room.

Neither of them came back out until the next morning.

His lips moved. “She was wasted that night. I was only taking care of her.”

I opened a third video. An underground parking garage.

Sloane went up on her toes and kissed him. And he didn’t push her away.

The rain pounded around us.

But Gavin seemed to lose the ability to make a sound.

I put the tablet away.

“See, here’s the thing.”

“I don’t understand jokes. I don’t understand ‘taking care of someone.”

“I don’t understand brotherhood, or loyalty, or soulmates, or any of that.”

“I understand facts.”

His eyes turned red. “How long have you been investigating me?”

“The moment your personal secretary announced she knew which shirt button irritated your neck.”

“I couldn’t figure out why an employee needed that level of detail. So I looked into it.”

“Turns out, there was quite a bit to find.”

He laughed–a hollow, ugly sound.

“Drew, do you really think you’ve won?”

“Callahan Holdings pulled out. That wasn’t painless for your family either.”

“There are people behind this project. People you can’t just stomp on.”

“You don’t get to crush everything just because you feel like it.”

I raised an eyebrow. “Who?”

He didn’t answer, only staring at me.

“You’re going to regret this.”
