The One He Let Go Chapter 07

The One He Let Go Chapter 07

“Last time Isabella fainted, Mia was just trying to give her some fruit candy out of the goodness of her heart.”

“You came barreling in, shoved Mia to the ground without a second thought. Her leg was bleeding bad. I was the one who saw it and gave her some iodine to clean it up.”

“Her? You two? Nobody would believe that… I’d think you had it out for Mia and were trying to get her transferred.”

The air seemed to freeze solid.

Caspian stood there, stunned.

Some dark suspicions started creeping into his mind.

He slowly realized that he’d made a lot of mistakes.

The day after I arrived in Savannah,

I got a video from Isabella.

In the video, Caspian’s eyes were closed in contentment, his muscular chest covered in fresh, red scratch marks.

It wasn’t hard to guess what had happened the night before.

Quick as a flash, I saved it before she could retract it.

Then I saw Isabella continue to message:

> [See? What’s not yours, no matter how hard you cling to it, you’ll lose it.]

[Truth is, I was the one who got bored and called it quits. But after I broke up with him and traveled abroad for a bit, I realized Caspian was the best fit for me.]

[I wanted to get back together with him, and then I found out he’d gotten hitched to you. Not that it matters. As long as I want him, Caspian will always be mine.]

I didn’t have time to reply.

I just kept screen-recording everything.

Conveniently, I’d spent yesterday carefully sorting out a timeline.

I was just worried I didn’t have solid proof.

I let out a breath of relief.

And replied to Isabella:

[Oh?]

She kept typing, but nothing came through.

While I was waiting for her reply,

I compiled the video and the chat logs into a PowerPoint.

By the time I was done organizing it,

Isabella still hadn’t responded.

I figured that was enough.

I sent the PPT to all the shareholders.

Caspian didn’t seem to know Isabella had messaged me.

He called me and asked me to come to his office. He sounded tired.

“Mia, you’ve been so good this time. How about I reward you with a trip?”

“I’ll clear my schedule and come with you.”

I walked into my new office, “Huh?” I said,

“You and Isabella aren’t together?”

Maybe it was just my imagination, but

Caspian’s breathing seemed to get heavier, and he said, his tone tentative,

“You heard about the dinner with Isabella last night, didn’t you?”

“It’s nothing. She’s been feeling really down about the gossip, been crying a lot, so we got a few old friends together for dinner.”

“By the time we finished, it was so late we didn’t—”

“You slept together.” I heard my own voice, unnervingly calm.

“I’ll send you the video in a bit?”

Caspian fell silent.

I chatted with my new colleagues as I walked, and said to Caspian,

“Besides, We have now divorced.”

“Remember? You and I, we filed the divorce application together.”

“Which means you don’t need to report to me about anything you do, or who you love.”

The next sound was a cup shattering.

Mixed with Caspian’s low curse.

I was getting annoyed.

Just as I was about to hang up, I heard Caspian let out a long sigh and say calmly,

“But I was with Isabella for eight years. You knew we had a sexual relationship.”

“Now it just happened again. That’s all. You can’t sentence me to death for that.”

“Fine, even if it was my fault, come up to my office right now, and I’ll apologize to you in person—”

Right then,

My colleagues were chatting in the break room.

Speaking in the Savannah dialect.

Caspian paused for a moment on the other end of the line, then his voice trembled as he asked,

“Where are you?”

“You’re not at the office?”

I listened quietly as he rushed downstairs in a panic.

Then heard him angrily question the HR manager:

“Why isn’t Amelia at work?”

“Transferred? Who authorized this!”

“The final step in the process requires my signature. Don’t you know that!”

I pinched the bridge of my nose.

I couldn’t bear to listen to him keep grilling the manager.

So I reminded him, helplessly:

“You signed it yourself.”

“Caspian. It was in that stack of documents.”

Finally,

I told Caspian we were done.

He was reluctant, kept saying he’d win me back.

But I knew he wouldn’t have the energy for that.

Caspian’s father was a notorious playboy in New York when he was young.

He never married, but had four sons and three daughters.

Caspian was just one of them.

That was all.

So, after receiving my PPT, the shareholders quickly decided to push Caspian out.

And put someone else in that chair.
