The Muted Luna’s Revenge Chapter 04

The Muted Luna’s Revenge Chapter 04

“No…”

My hands shook as I turned my phone back on.

Kael called the very next second.

“Maeve, what happened between Lyra and me was a misunderstanding. I’ll explain everything.”

His voice was rushed.

“Come back first. Lyra fainted, and she needs a blood transfusion.”

Mom’s frantic voice came over the phone.

“You knew Lyra had a weak heart, and you upset her anyway. Are you trying to kill her?”

I gripped the phone without answering.

Then, amid the commotion, I heard Kael lower his voice.

“Wait. I knew she might run, so I swapped Maeve’s passport ahead of time. She can’t go anywhere. She’ll have to come back eventually.”

Everything finally made sense.

Then humiliating photos of me began flooding the internet.

#Maeve Vale Steals Her Sister’s Mate, Attacks Her in Hospital#

Headline after headline shot onto the trending list.

People who knew me began hurling insults.

Strangers sent vicious messages.

Abuse, harassment, and nonstop calls crashed over me from every direction.

But my throat was ruined. No matter how desperately I tried, I couldn’t make a sound to defend myself.

In the distance, Selene slowly came into view.

Like a puppet, I let her lead me step by step back to the hospital.

The moment I entered the hospital, Mom slapped me across the face.

“If anything happens to Lyra, I’ll never forgive you!”

My head snapped to the side.

As she watched me stand there in silence, the anger in her eyes slowly turned to desperation.

“Maeve, Lyra has a rare blood type. We’re running out of time, and you’re the only match… I’m begging you. Punish me if you need to, but she’s innocent. Please save her…”

I stared at her in disbelief. The proud she-wolf I remembered had never once bowed to anyone.

I could barely remember the mother who once held me and called me her proudest child.

She was offering herself up for my revenge if it meant protecting her child.

What a devoted mother.

If only I weren’t her other daughter.

I closed my eyes against the pain, signed the consent form, and held out my arm.

Kael hurried over and draped his coat around my shoulders.

“I owe you for this, Maeve. Once this is over, I’ll complete the mate bond with you.”

My wolf didn’t respond to him.

I remained in the hospital for the next week, weak from the blood loss.

In the room on the other side of the wall, everyone stayed at Lyra’s side around the clock.

Not one of them remembered me.

Fortunately, I found my real passport in the coat Kael had given me.

That night, while everyone slept, I packed all my belongings.

Before leaving, I wrote a letter cutting all family ties.

After sending one final message, I blocked all of them.

Then I took my suitcase and headed for the airport.

Before boarding, I looked one last time at the land I’d called home for twenty years.

“Goodbye.”

It was the last goodbye I would ever give them.

Lyra was discharged the next morning.

The group opened the door to the room next door.

Mom’s voice was unusually gentle. “Maeve, pack up and come home with us. I made your favorite barbecue ribs today.”

Selene followed right behind her.

“Lyra’s willing to let this go, Maeve. Don’t tell me you’re still going to be petty about it.”

No one answered.

Kael frowned, stepped inside, and switched on the light.

“Maeve, the doctor said your voice should recover soon. When it does, I’ll throw you a proper party. You always wanted to bond with me, didn’t you? Fine. I agree…”

His voice died the moment the lights came on.

When they saw the room, the color drained from every face.
